Guy or Girl friend - Who is more difficult when it comes to choosing gifts?

Christmas which is the season of "gift giving and receiving" is fast approaching and I am thinking of possible presents for my friends. Choosing gifts for my girl friends are actually easy because it can be 'almost' anything but when it comes to guy friends, 'tik-tok-tik-tok' I don't have any idea at all. I also did check out the store for gift ideas but I noticed that gifts for guys are more expensive than those of the girls. This is actually one of the reasons why I prefer a "manita" or a girl whom I have to give my presentover a "manito" or a guy whom I am obliged to give a gift during exchanging of gifts. You get the idea. What do you think? Who is more difficult when it comes to choosing gifts? Guy friends or girl friends? If you have any gift ideas for guys or even girls, please care to share. Thank you. GOD BLESS and Happy Mylotting. ^_^

I always found this a very tricky one too, but if you know some things they really are interested in and or like and collect not so tough. I do believe depending on how many things the person already owns it is much harder to find them something they don't already have. This is just why gift cards are so very awesome to me now. I do have family that just seem to have everything already. I have picked up sewing and painting too so if you know someone who like crafts or art gifts this is very handy too. For some reason I always think the guys are much harder to shop for since they are just so picky about what things must be at times the girls in your life you just talk to each other more and better so you do know mostly what they would like or not. Just my opinion here though. Thanks,A.B.

Hi bewitchingmelody, I do agree the secret to good gift giving is absolutely knowing them well enough. I actually know some people now who even ask to get a gift card instead now too. Some people are just very independent on what they want today I think with this one. Still some others like older people I know would prefer a more personal gift maybe hand made or something I know they really enjoy too. Thanks,A.B.

The power of gift certificates is awesome! That's what my aunt uses when she doesn't know what gift to give. It is in indeed hard to choose the right gift for a person who has almost everything already. Luckily, I have not encountered such problem. I find handmade gifts touching and it also saves money. So I sometimes make handy crafts as presents. I think the problem with guys is that they don't really talk on what they really like and when it comes to being picky depends on the personality of the person. But when you like the person so much and that you want that person to be happy, then you would do just about anything regardless of the price just to give that person the right gift. So what's the secret of giving the right gift? It's actually knowing the person well.

Girls! We don't even know what is going on in their heads, how could we get them presents? Guys are easier, you know what they like and you go get it. It's always the opposite that is the most difficult.

That's what I said. The opposite. Girls can't decide what guys want and guys can't decide what want girls. Also, we guys are easier, right?

I am guessing that you are a guy from the way you commented. Probably you find it difficult to give girls presents because you don't really know what girls love. Like me, I also have difficulty in giving guys gifts because I don't know what they really like since most guys would say "Anything will do." How I wish that the item, ANYTHING would exist so that I won't have difficulty buying gifts to guy friends.

for me, its more difficult to give gifts to male friends. for girl friends, there are a lot of cute stuffs and they are a whole lot cheaper!

Super Duper Agree!!! I can't agree with you more chiyosan. Cute + less expensive = girl's gift! Let's just hope that the girls is not someone who puts price tag in every gift. ^_^

Hi Bewitchin, Oh hands down, I find it far more difficult to buy for a guy regardless of his age than I do for a girl. I think that is because I am a woman and all my children were girls. Maybe girls are just easier to buy for. I tend to get gift certificates for any of the guys on my list. My son in law goes to Dunkin Donuts each morning so I got him a gift cert. for there. He hunts so I got him a gift Cert. for the sporting goods store etc.

Hello sid, hands down to you too. It just shows that you know what your son in law likes since I think he could use the gift certificates for his best interest. Actually, as I have read the posts of others, it's usually when your a girl, you have difficulty buying gifts for guy friends but when your a guy, it's the other thing around. I guess the greatest factor in buying gifts is how well you know that person so that for sure, you know what the person would like and regardless of the price, you would get that gift just to make that person happy.

Girls. This is because unlike boys who can wear almost anything and be smart, girls opt to go for those colorful, well fitting things that they think are fashionable and modern. This make it hard to decide what to buy for them.

It is true that girls have many option to choose from but the reality is you don't buy an oversized dress and you expect the girl to wear it smiling. I mean, they are more specific on the choice of what they want and what to wear.

Really? I think girls can wear anything either skirt, jeans, slacks, shorts, shirt, blouse and etc... Unlike guys, they usually wear pants, shorts, polo, shirt and etc... On own opinion, I think there are a lot of things to choose from when it comes to buying gifts for girls compared to those of guys.

I think the girls are the toughest to please when they don't tell you what exactly they want! They are easy to shop for when you're really in tune with their interests but if not you could be searching all day until you can find something you think is suitable for her! Chances are the item you select isn't one she really wanted and now you feel screwed and she acts like she likes it! That would suck!

Really? I've always thought that girls would give hints on what they want. I know me and my friends are. You just have to pay attention or the easy solution to it is, ask her what she wants. Girls can give you the describe or even specify what she likes so all you have to do is buy that gift. Yes, they are easy to shop with and girl stuff are cheaper too compared to guy stuff. If ever you encounter a girl who would say, "Anything will do as long as it comes from the heart." then join forces with me because I also wish that the item, "ANYTHING" will be in stores so that all I have to do is buy them for my guy friends and you to your girl friends.

i think the difficulty in choosing gifts are actually gender related issue. of course if you're a girl buying something for a guy will give you hard time in choosing which things or suitable gifts you could buy as presents, the reason of course is because you're not used to know what guys stuff while the girl stuff is common for you because you're used to what girls would want to have for a present..for me it depends upon what gender you are and the person you intent to give a gift.

You have a point. I don't really have an idea on what guys' prefer when it comes to gifts. No wonder it is easy for me to choose gifts for my girl friends than my guy friends. You see, when I ask girls on what they want, they can be very descriptive and specific. On the other hand, when I ask guys, they would usually say, "Anything will do." How am I suppose to buy anything when in fact, I don't see an item which is or says, "ANYTHING" on the shop. Personally, I don't really think that guys have difficulty choosing gifts for girls since there will always be alternative/ common gifts for girls like flowers, chocolates, stuff toys and etc... Thanks for the thought. GOD BLESS and Happy Mylotting ^_^

Just like you I find choosing gifts for girls is easy for me. It's difficult for the guys, I can only think of a few items for guys.

High 5! I'm glad I'm not alone. I mean, you can see girl stuff almost everywhere. In fact, you can almost give anything to a girl but just hope and pray that the girl is not choosy. Guys stuff on the other hand are difficult to find and when you find the perfect item, they turn out to be expensive. :(

You are right! It's so hard to choose gifts for men. Unlike girls that you can just buy it anywhere. It is also expensive and cost a lot of money to buy gifts for boys. It mmight be okay if you will give gift to a kid or a baby boy because it is not hard but if it is a teen already.phew! It's so hard!

I agree! I mean you can buy girls cute stuff or anything that is girly and they are really easy to find. Plus, they are very cheap. Compared to that of guys who would usually say, "Anything will do. I don't mind." Let's wish together that the item named "ANYTHING" would be in stores so that I can immediately buy that to my guy friends.

It has nothing to do with the gender (male or female) but with you. If you know your friends/family well you know what to give.

Bravo! When you know that person too well, then it won't be difficult to find a present for that certain friend like 1,2,3... But there are times that you are in desperate measures like you don't really know that person, all you know is the name and that he is a guy, then it becomes really difficult. Just hope that the guy is not picky when it comes to presents.

LOL you already wrote what I was going to say. There is not much you can present to a guy, if you decide to, it will be expensive (Strange right). You can get a girl almost anything as you said. Try clothes for a guy, a nice tee isn't that costly, a well designed one that suits the complexion of the guy will be a good gift I guess.

LOL... I didn't mean to write what you were about to say. Guy stuff are indeed more expensive compared to girl stuff. I wonder why. I wish the stores would sell an item named "Anything" because my guy friends always reply, "You can give me anything. I don't mind." So what do I usually do? I just look for things that are masculine or that is in color blue, green, black or white. then Voila! Present for my guy friends with a side note, "Don't you dare complain coz you said anything." :P

definitely guys, You can give almost anything from gift stores for girls. For guys, Its really hard to figure out what he would like, and theres limited options. I mostly give out wallets, books, hankies, or something looking masculine in the store.

High 5! Same here. It's really hard to find gifts for guy friends. Like you, I also just grab anything that looks masculine besides, when I asked him for a specific gift, he said that anything will do. It's not my problem anymore if he doesn't like it. Hahahah!!! Meanie.. But sometimes, to save time and energy looking around for masculine items, I give them personalized items like a key chain that has their name on it n etc... Thanks for the gift ideas. GOD BLESS and Happy Mylotting ^_^

I'm having a hard time choosing gifts for girls. Most girls are picky. They expect something a little bit expensive. I agree with you that gifts for guys are more expensive but we are not choosy.
• Philippines
17 Nov 11
That's strange. Why? Because there will always be the alternative or the usual gifts in case of emergency that I don't know the girl too much, like flowers, stuff toy or chocolates. Most girls love those. Yes there are girls who are choosy. Just pray that you don't get to give gifts to those kind of people unless you really like that person. On the other hand, guys may not be choosy and would accept ANYTHING. This is actually the main reason why, I wish the gift ANYTHING exists. ^_^

It's always been hard for me to choose gift for anyone. I only know how to buy things for myself for others I really find it quite hard whether they may be boy or girl simply because I am not really sure of their personal preferences. For this reason I always just give cash or gift checks to make things easier for me. I want them to enjoy my gift as much as possible so I'd rather let them buy what they like with the money I gave them.

I don't think the gender makes much difference, personality and charater is more important in my opinion. Some of my friends are picky when it comes to receving gift while others are just happy I got them something, they don't "price tag" the gift, they are just happy a didn't forget them.
• Philippines
17 Nov 11
Indeed! The character of the person should be noted when buying gifts. It's such a hassle when you give a present to someone who puts price tags at anything and also those who are into details like how well is the gift wrapped and etc... I'm just thankful that I don't usually encounter such people. Thanks for your thoughts. GOD BLESS and Happy MyLotting ^_^

giving gift - giving gift is a session that i really like in my life.
it is exciting we can give something that will make our mate happy.
giving gift to men is easier than give a gift to womens.
womens are too difficult to understand,
they have so much want and always change time by time you know.
so it will make us doubt for giving something like they expected.it will make us confused.
i think it is more difficult to choosing gifts for girls. because they are unpredictable, what they want is always change time by time. it makes me doubt everytime i want to give my girl a gift. girls are too complex and their feeling also always change. i have ti thinking so much time and try the best thing, because, i dont want to disappointed my girl. different with men, they are simple and mostly easy to predict. so i conclude that choosing gift for girl is more difficult than choosing gift for men.

For me, it is more difficult to look for gifts for girls. My girl friends are picky when it comes to gifts. I have given them a little token of friendship before and I can see in their eyes that they didn't like it. It was a small pillow with their names on it. On the other hand, guys are less picky and would pretty much accept whatever you give them. They can deal with generic things like t-shirts, caps or perfumes.
• Philippines
17 Nov 11
Really? My girl friends are not picky at all and I never had a hard time picking gifts for them. Awww.. That is so sweet of you. I think the small pillow with their names on it is a good gift for either girl or guy friends. You do have a point but I still find it hard to choose a gift for guys because usually, when you ask guys, they would just say anything would do. Can't they just be specific? ~_~ Thanks for the pointers. GOD BLESS and Happy Mylotting. ^_^

since i'm a girl, i find it more difficult to give gifts to guys. to solve that problem, i look for a guy friend to help me choose gifts. i did this last last year, the poor guy had to help me. since i wanted to buy a tshirt, i made my friend wear it to see if it will fit my boyfriend. they have more or less the same body size so he's the perfect assistant.
