Grrr! I can't see out of my glasses!

I'm really having a time tonight to try and see through all the scratches in my glasses. They are about 6 years old I think.. they are supposed to be scratch resistant but that is a joke.
I cannot afford $400 or more for glasses... is there any way that my glasses can be buffed out to make all these scratches to disappear? I can deal with the blurry vision from a non-fitting prescription such as these.. but I can't deal with looking through scratches that make me look like I am looking through wax paper. I'm going nuts. I take the glasses off and I can see my computer screen, and I get a headache... if I wear the glasses I have to try and look between the scratches.. which is like trying to skip between rain drops so not to get wet.. it's about the same thing.. there are so many scratches it is impossible to see through them. In order to read my book I have to wear drug store reading glasses.
So is there any way to get rid of the scratches so I can see partly clearly? Any ideas would be helpful. I got my glasses from Walmart but they won't do anything about them because they are expired.. they just want me to get more.. but HELLO... I can't.

It's ridiculous how much spectacles cost. I was able to get a pair of driving glasses and a pair of reading glasses for free a couple of years ago. The driving glasses are great...cheap, but really good for when I'm doing lots of driving. The reading glasses...what can I say...they just don't fit and are very uncomfortable to wear and I cannot see properly through them...I think I got someone else's prescription or something. So, I'm still wearing the magnifiers I bought several years ago. They are excellent quality and serve me well.
My original pair of specs cost me $300 and fell apart within a year. I kept getting them fixed when it was convenient then I just gave up and started buying from the supermarket. Over the last 10 years, I've spent a small fortune.

Yes it is ridiculous. I've never heard of glasses just for driving. I am getting new insurance. I will be able to get a free eye exam and up to $290 off on glasses. So I'm going to wait for my insurance to come into effect.

I think you need to go to an opthomtrist and ask them, I know here in montreal you can keep your frames and they will just put in new lenses, so that saves a lot of money.

Yeah, that is what Kim said to do also. I would like new frames because these are so old now.. but they still work and wear well.

Hi friend..
I have been wearing glasses for last 10 years and i change my glass within two/three years for those scratches. Here, glasses are not so costly and i can change it if i have 15$ in my pocket.
So, as you have said that you cant afford that amount as cited, so better to lessen the scratches and make it clear to some extend, you may use spirit. Like after shave or whisky. It works for me. You may give a try.
Have a nice time.

I am not sure whether glasses cost $400. I have seen glasses costing around $100 in Sears mall. The scratches in the glass -- I think cannot be removed. Further you have been using it for six years. Now mostly your eyesight power would have changed. It is advisable to get your eyes checked up and then go for glasses. May be there are some hospitals where they provide such service free provided request is made--I am not sure about your place. check up or your children must be able to tell you more about this.

Mine were from Walmart and they were OVER $400. I've never had a $100 pair of glasses in my life that I know of. I don't have a simple prescription. Even the cheap place my daughter went to, America's Best can't make me cheap glasses. The lenses would be over $300 and that was before I got these. My frames were $150. They are good though. They have held up well. I might just buy lenses this time but I know they will try to talk me out of it.
