a little help on the i-front!

I’m just wondering if some people could help me with something? And before I get any abusive comments about how I could have “googled” this etc, I have, and I still don’t understand. So I’ve started a discussion. Don’t like it. Don’t comment. Ok? Thanks :)
I had an i-pod shuffle before, and when I plugged it into my computer it told me to install i-tunes. So I did, from the disk that was supplied with it. That’s fine.
HOWEVER, my partner and I have bought 2 iphones from 2 friends, and they no longer have the itunes disk. I haven’t plugged the phone into the latop either as I am still waiting on the cable. Will it prompt me to download itunes when I plug the phone in? and will I be able to download it from the internet if I have no disk?
Also – can my partner and I used the same laptop for both our iphones? Someone said to me about you can only link your phone to one computer. Which is fine. But does that also mean you can only link one phone, to one computer?
Thanks!

I hope i am not late for this since it has been three weeks already. You must have an itune account and if you and your partner are using the same computer it means there's only one itune there and no you don't need a cd for that.
You and your partner can both use the same itune account.

You don't need the disk to download itunes. I suggest downloading itunes before you plug in the phone..if your laptop doesn't already have itunes. But now with the new software the phone has I'm not sure you even need to use itunes on your computer since you can buy stuff from itunes right from your phone. I still have itunes though because it comes in handy.
And I'm pretty sure you can use the same computer for 2 phones. I know you can use the same computer for multiple ipods so I think the phone would work the same way.

thanks so much for your comment. we have both decided against iphones because we both prefer blackberrys but we are both going to get an ipod as well, so this was still a great help. thank you very much!
