I lived in Sacramento CA. for a few years. This time was tough on me but I learned so much about myself and life that I would never change it at all. I lived with a boyfriend on the streets who was a complete bum as where most of the men around me then so it became something I just tolerated after a while. I wasn't working either which I hated, we where directed to Loaves and Fishes for assistance and health even clothes, showers, and food. Then,we saw there work line people where paid to go on jobs that people wanted to help the needy do. They didn't pay much and where usually back breaking jobs too. This was enough money to have a hotel rooms paid and buy your own meals though. Then, I got a boy friend I saw as less of a bum and he was but not by much. He wanted us to work and save and have our own home he wanted to take care of me better and for me to have a job too this is what he had me believing for a while any way. The truth was I just brought in more money to his pocket for his smokes and beer and made him look like one of the guys still since he had a lady in so many different ways he was just using me as a front to make himself look and feel better about life now. He knew it wasn't real too though, so he got violent with me when I told him how I wanted more from life and that I felt I could do much better too. He hit me once and that was it, I was back home to Oregon to live with my family safe and sound. I did keep a dish washing job in the kitchen there and helped with some grounds keeping and landscaping too with my ex-boyfriend there. I also had some family who lived there too a Grandma,Aunt, and cousin. I got to know my fellow employees there pretty well too, they where mostly good people too working hard everyday too with families of there own as well. Most of them had struggled and over come very big hardships and even still coping with some too everyday now. I really like some of them allot they even reminded me of some of my own family members coming from such a big family as I do this is easy to do at times. I mostly just missed home allot though and my family members to, there is no place like home and it is where the heart is I know. Still, I have so many photo's and memories now of the great people who work there and helped to support and even shelter me at times while I lived there I will never forget them and always hold them dear to me too for different reason's each of course. Thanks,A.B.
