Why don't they tell us..if can't deliver?!

Indifferent or tired? - People accept tasks and then become indifferent towards completion. Can't understand why such couldn't care less attitude

I have been looking for an auditor for filing my revised income tax return. After consulting colleagues to spot a known and knowing one, I found one. He collected my papers and promised to complete the submission forms ready soon. It has been several weeks now. Not only did he not call me to inform about the submission being ready, but he has either been giving me excuses or has been evasive. I am anxious about completing my statutory obligation. What's the matter with people who provide services? I am looking for paid professional service not charity. I don't think he suspects he won't be paid. He doesn't seem to be too preoccupied either. He can tell me if can't handle-straight & clear. Why are people so complacent & unconcerned? This is just an example. We have had issues with plumbers, mechanics, electricians, tailors, laundryman-many who display such couldn't care attitude for work. Why?? Have you got a better experience? Please share the good, bad & the ugly.

I've hardened up a lot with these people. If they start being evasive or making excuses, I'll stop them and give them a deadline date. If it's not done by that date, I'll get someone else. You have a verbal contract with him. Tell him that if the tax return isn't ready by the due date (or a couple of days before so you can get it posted and so on), then you'll send him the bills for late fees, fines and anything else incurred. That should get him moving. Alternatively, just get your documents back, find someone else and refuse to pay the slacker. His loss.

It is difficult to take back the papers from a person to whom we have given. But if there is no other option then we have to do it. In these cases we should give allowance for efficiency though they do private service.

In my opinion, you're his boss - you hired him to do a certain job by a certain date. If he doesn't do it, he doesn't get paid and he gets fired so you can replace him with someone else. It's a simple enough contract. Why would anyone "compensate for efficiency" if he's useless and doesn't do the work? I know it sounds harsh but it's business.

Hi Pushhyarag, I completely understand your frustration. In India this is the norms with many people/companies. The worst is when they give you a time and not keep it. Sometimes I tell them straight off that, 'Look, I don't care about how long it is going to take. Tell me the correct duration it will take you, then I can make a decision.' Does that work? NO WAY. My computer repair people are the worst. 'I'll be there in 10 minutes' literally means tomorrow or whenever.

In spite of providing sub standard or unsatisfactory service, they thrive. Which mans they are assured of required jobs because of sellers' market or they suffer very less penalization. Very demeaning, you agree-glad!

We have to go to the people who have expertise. Filing e-income tax return may not take more than 30 minutes provided the person is an experienced one. Contact him, take back the papers and entrust to another person--sit with him and see the return is loaded on the computer.
