in this age of ebooks and online readers, feeding our love for reading and books is certainly easier...but no less cheaper so, throughout my search for cheap ways to get to read, i found some ways (legitimate and otherwise, but here lets keep it to legal sources of course, lol) to get me some free books. have you heard about smashwords? do you download the 0.00 books from amazon.com? if yes, what do you think about them giving free ebooks? where do you get yours? good day to all! :3

I don't approve free books authors are work so hard do not deserve to be robbed. If some authors wants to make "charity" wit his book it will be available on his official site. And this fen translation, what a madness, how its possible someone who robbed you to be your fen?! If you want to save tree, that is different, visiting Bookcrossing site.

Very true, aimhrea. Take amazon, for example. The free books are usually a trilogy or first of a set. They give you the first book for free in the hope that you would be interested and buy the rest of the series.

If I can see permission from authors, OK, but that you say "legal or otherwise", I can't accept!

hi belaaa just to clarify, not all sites giving free books are cheating authors out of their income. some are actually used by authors as means of promoting their books/series, or authors starting out in the business wanting to get reader feedback or reaching out to readers to establish their fanbase. i know a lot of authors who not only post free books on their sites but also to other sites. :)

I do download the 0.00 from Amazon. I haven't downloaded much, but then I hardly have time to read books these days. I have to start downloading a few now that I'm going to be traveling. I have never heard of smashwords before. I will check it out. Most of the free sites I know are for really old books. I did download some old books from those. The first site that comes to mind is Project Guttenburg (can't be sure if that is the right spelling or not)

That is great, especially for new writers. Well, it is even greater for poor readers like us.

smashwords i found through a post of a favorite author (they're a couple actually) of mine since they use it to publish free books for their fans. the site is like a platform for independent authors/publisher so they have free books or books authors sell at cost. i think its a good site for both authors and readers as readers get to read works from new writers (its always good for new blood to get into the stream right?), and writers get to reach out to more people and get reader feedback (they even have an option for authors to revise their work and then republish the book). :)

I do love to e-read as well. I get mostly books from amazon that are our of copyright, those books however were all published before 1927 or so, so not all of my favourite books are listed there. I have bought only one digital book, and it was 9.99 from amazon too. I know no other place to get free books from, or in-date books in any case.

hmmmm i guess i get a lot of new books from amazon since they are under the romance/urban fantasy genre and authors of these books use them to promote their series :P

I need so many books for college that at this moment I just don't care if I will get them legal or not. I can go to the library but it's a waste of time. They close the library at about 4 PM and most of the time I need a lot of hours to finish a paper.

yes, i have heard of smashwords, but not amazon. i didn't know they had free ebooks as well. for me, i like romance to be in anything i read, i prefer visiting sites that have romance genres mainly. one that i go to frequently is free online novels. i go to the romance section and they have a lot of links to many titles. this is more than enough for me as i don't usually read ebooks often. it's only from time to time and this site is more than enough for me. of course, it doesn't just contain romance genres only. there are other genres as well so you might enjoy this site. i found this site accidentally while searching for books to read online. i am definitely happy about getting to read free ebooks. when i don't have anything to do online, ebooks help me while away my time. they're definitely a good source of pastime for me. good day to all.

I have not heard of smashswords but there are a couple of free ebook sites that I have found. One of the free ebook sites that I have found is call www.ebookee.org. You can download free ebooks from this site. As well another free ebook site that I have found is called www.freeebookdownloads.org. It is another site that you can download free ebooks from. I think that both sites have a good selection of ebooks that you can download. Best of all there free.
