I can not believe that she has soo many kids. How can you possibly ever have one on one time with each child, and teach them what they need to know. And it really is not fair to the older kids to have to be in charge of the younger ones where is their childhood then. society already expects kids to grow up fast enough they do not need to be parents of their siblings as well.

Actually, in my work, I have met many women that not only had this many children, but raised them alone without the applause, attention, and government assistance. And their children have all (with of course a few exceptions) grown up to be successful and appreciative. I am a middle child and helping my mom with my baby sister has helped me be a better person and mom of (just one...lol...I wasn't made to have the patience and teaching skills of more) gorgeous, smart, talented son...:) Plus a second mom to all his friends and my siblings children. Life skills (I don't mean the book smarts the schools are shoving down the kids throats before they are ready to understand) are taught in a large family, I think. You find out early that the world doesn't revolve aroung YOU 24/7, but when it does every now and then....it's more special... Just a thought

I have always thought about how she can handle it all, I mean when she got up to 17 and 18 I was thinking, how does she do it?!?! I think it is such an amazing thing how large her family is. I can only imagine family get togethers in about 30 years!!! At the same time with how much trouble she had and the last baby almost dyeing, I am kind of concerned for the babys safety. I hope it turns out ok for them.

I love being a mom and in the past I was pregnant but not right now. I adored pregnancy and knew these times were special in my life. I have three very different labors and each is memorable. My favorite labor was my second one because it was so easy and quick. I have a 16 year old son, a 4 year old son in a wheelchair and a 2 year old daughter. I admire the energy of Mrs Duggar because she is such a great mom to all her kids yet she has so many. It is amazing that her family gets so much media coverage. It is a surprise to find out Mrs Duggar is pregnant with her 20th baby. Most families have one, two or three children. My sister has four children. I know a few families with five children and that is unusual these days.

I don't think it is fair on the kids. There is no way a person can make her attention divided equally among 20 kids. No way. Each child need a mother and hoe can she be a mother of 20, well, 18 as you pointed out. I can't even begin to imagine the expense. I have two kids and I feel like I don't give them enough time. Between having to spend time in our family business and other household chores, I feel like I'm neglecting them sometimes.

Little torn on this one...If being a mom over and over is a joy to her, then God Bless her.. If they do this for the money and attention..Shame on them, and if (cause we don't know and can't judge) they've just been blessed with the joy of children and God made a way for the show, money and attention...Then good for all of them as everyone has some kind of talent..lol

I know their having a big brood is due to their religious view about how children are blessings from God. Michelle, the mom, is very organized, and evidently has taught the kids well, i.e. what's expected of them in terms of behavior & chores. I'm not the least bothered by them having a big family. They're not being supported financially by the government, and the children show responsibility. More power to them & their kind of childrearing. The only issue I guess that's facing them is the health of the mother & the children she bears at her age.

I greatly admire her too. I wonder how she manage to cope. I love children too and i when i was younger I used to say i will give birth to ten children if I am averagely comfortable financially but that if I become super rich then I would give birth to far more than ten. However, I presently have two kids and my wife is expecting another one but we intend to give ourselves a break after this one. One reason, my wife is usually not well during the first trimester and then for financial reasons. I honestly wish we could be like the duggars or close to them but for reasons i can not.

Rather her than me! Whilst I don't think that twenty kids is sustainable in general terms it doesn't mean that she isn't personally a good and capable mom. Like you say there are folks out there who can't cope with (and probably shouldn't have) one child. I know, I'm one of those folks and that's why I'm childfree .

Honestly I have been trying to figure out how the Duggars do it myself. Between my fiance and myself we have 6 children ages 6 and under. And BOY OH BOY are they a handful!!!! I could not even begin to imagine having another child in the mix, let alone have 20 children produced out of my own body. They must have all the patience in the world to be able to handle that many children. I do believe that they are a rather religous family, and do not believe in the use of birth control. I do recall seeinga couple episodes where the wife, Michelle, said that God wanted them to have that many children, if he didnt then they would not have been blessed with such a large family. personally, I would've called it quites about 15 babies ago! Not only would need a massive amount of paitence as a parent, but think about the amount of money all those diapers, and food, and schooling and so forth would cost.
