A pleasant day dear fellow mylotters, Since I was back home 6 months ago, I am trying to adopt new house rules for our home. As I have told my mom to dispose some old things which we are not using anymore. Just like our old compact disk (cd) player, since it was too old, I told my mom to sell it on a second hand basis if still applicable. Aside from that, this player is not good anymore compare to those sound system being use now a days. This idea was not approve neither disapprove by my mom as she told me to ask first the family members for consensus. As a result, not all have agreed to the idea. The player is still at home but nobody uses it. And because of this, my sister have told me to forget about it, and reminds me, that I cannot please everybody though my idea is quite right.

So.. as I understand well you want to sell something that is according to you toooo old, not good anymore to compare to those sound system being used nowadays? Have you read what you wrote? So something you find bad you want to make money out? If this is just in your way, why not giving it away to someone who will really appreciate it. Someone who doesn't care that the system is not being used nowadays? BTW Personally I don't understand why you want to decide about something you don't own. I would not accept that of any of my children. Nothing wrong with cleaning up a house once in a while. I also like to do that 1 or 2 times a year. But the way you describe it...

Sometimes some oldies have some attachment value for their belongings and they don't want to let go of it, even if it just sitting there and dusting. You just need to understand and make way for it.

Hi, airasheila You are quite right. It is impossible to please everybody. Since it is obvious that there are members of your family who are opposed to the idea, I suggest that you listen to their reasons first. While I agree that you have a sensible idea, you might also find some good ideas from them. Have a nice day, airasheila

It's impossible that we make all people aournd us content. Sometimes I would feel it too hard to do so. You need patience to persuade them. And then you'll have to sacrifice your own pleasure. I want everyone to be happy but it's such a hard thing. So now I am trying to be myself. Just do the things I like. I feel okay if people don't agree with my ideas.

It is frustrating that you can't please everyone. But you have to respect their decision. Probably it holds a sentimental value to them that's why they want to keep it. Just respect their decision so that things won't go worse. ^_^

It can be a bit frustrating if you want to get rid of something that isn't being used and you can't because someone wants to hang on to it. Perhaps a good compromise would be to suggest if it isn't used within the next month that you sell it and use the money for some kind of shared treat - perhaps some nice food or put the money towards something that the whole family will use.

That's a great idea airasheila. But I think the cd player isn't yours. Maybe it's your mom or dad who bought it. So maybe they still have some sentimental value on it and even if it won't run anymore they will still put that on junk. That's how it is in our home too. We don't just throw or sell our old stuff, we just want it to be here. If in case mom or dad decides they want to give old stuff to our relatives then they do it easily. I guess when we are still living with our parents, we still have no right to decide about these kinds of stuff.
