Did you plan for your career or job?

When I was still in college, I made an outline of what my job and future would be. I plotted that I will work in an office first then became a teacher and retire teaching. I guess at this stage, I was able to attain the managerial post but I was not able to save much. I got to buy a second hand car but until now, I have no house. I said to myself, I will just have to work 5 more years or get a part-time teaching job so that I'll be meeting my next objective, which is to teach. How about you? Were you able to plan your career early on? What percentage were you able to meet?

When I was in college, I don't have any idea what is the future ahead of me. I didn't know what career I have to take after college. It is because I don't want the course i had taken. When I graduated, it took me 2 years to find a decent job and it was just a clerical job until i got promoted. It was a good path to start a career but something happened and I needed to live the job. Now, I have to start all over again and I dont know where to start again. I guess this is an effect for not planning your career and future when you are younger.

Hi junmae. It is really hard to establish your career if you are not really interested with your job. To begin a career, your heart should be with it and you commit yourself to accomplishing it. Start again by asking yourself of what you really would want to do. From there, look for jobs that is aligned with what you would want to achieve. Study first the job description and the tasks. This would help for you to stay long in a job and turn it into a career. Have a nice day!

I never planned my job. After graduation, my first job was in a call center as a technical support. However, this job does not suit me well. I felt so stress with the kid o job BPO industry has. After that, I went to another place to look for a better paying and better job in general. I applied in one of the world leader in Information Technology. Luckily, I got hired and has since love my job. I think this is exactly the job I am looking for. SO basically, I did not plan my career but I ended up in a place where I want to be.

You are lucky jtj_hello. We really need to try and not be afraid of making mistake. When we find the right fit, then let us give our best to it. I learned as well that passion helps a man to be successful. Right now, I am passionate enough to earn my living doing freelancing work. When I finish my turnover with my office, I intend to assess where, how and when I am going to do just that. I already started by looking at opportunities here in the internet. I saw a lot of passive income sources. What I hope to hit upon on is finding a real job online that would not require much of my time. Maybe with writing I can do that. See you around!!!

I have planned my career and job pretty early. I did my masters in Computer Application, so started my career in Software development. Then I did my MBA in International Business. This set me up for the change in my role to Project Management in my career. So in that sense, I usually plan for what I will do over the next 5 years and generally go out to achieve it. Cheers! Ram

That's good. It pays off well when we plan for our future. The difficult part is making it happen. But if we are focused and would work hard to achieve it, we may succeed in our endeavors. Project management is very in demand now. If you'll be able to enhance your project management skills, I bet that you'll be more in-demand and would not find difficulty finding a higher paying job. Good luck to you.

Hi Rosa26. Reading your post, I can see that you are well focused and well directed in your career aspirations. I hope you'll be able to meet your next goal. Starting early to plan your career indeed paid off. I hope to continue my masteral. I just need focus to accomplish it. Disciplining self is a little difficult if you are not used to it. That is why I try my best to develop it into habit. Goodluck to both of us.

Hi princelove141. That's good... Asking for God's assistance would surely help. Just to share... I resigned my current job because I feel that I can no longer fulfill my promise of service. Work is eating too much of my time. My reason for sacrificing my job was that I got that same job because God has given it to me. If I will loose it for the sake of service, I am sure that God will give me a better job and a job that I can be happy with. Have a nice day!!!

I am actually in a state of imbroglio right now. I feel lost and I hate this feeling. There are nights that I sometimes cry because of it. I thought that after I will pass the board and become a registered nurse, then I would be happy. But I was not. When I was young, I was used to being dictated by my parents on this and that, what to do and etc... I have been their marionette for quite sometime now and I hated it because now, I'm having a hard time when it comes to decision making. I am so confused right now. I am praying and waiting for a sign though so that I would be enlightened on what to do. Wish me luck! ^_^

Hi bewitchingmelody. Nice to see you again here in mylot. Let me just share my experience. I believe that signs will come when you know what you are asking for. I contend myself to thinking that if it is really for me, it will come and it will happen. What do you want to do in your life right now? Have you given yourself a chance to do it or you are still hopeful that it will just come and would just happen? If I am in your shoes, I will go after it. And if ever I fail, at least I have tried my best. You said that you haven't passed the board yet. Maybe because it was not really your interest. Cause you see, if you really wanted it very badly, then you will exert much effort with the review and include prayers as well. Visualize your success. What you cannot see with your eyes and heart would not happen. The same with what we see around us. It all started with the idea and it was created. I wish you luck and I hope that you'll find what you've been hoping for.
