I have been wondering why domains are priced differently. Like .com is more expensive as compared to .info I am planning on buying my own domain and my budget right now can only afford me a .info What do you think? Should I wait and save more to buy a .com domain instead or is it alright to have a .info domain? Thank you!

yea of course. paid domain is much trusted than free domain. if you want to buy domain and hosting you may take a lokk at the hosgtaor, because ti is cheap and you can use coupon to getn 30 percents disciunts. you can get the discount trhu some site which offering free coupen. but the coupne is changed monthly

But .info is not free domain, you have to pay for it as well :P. Anyway, if you are going to buy a .info domain, you may want to take a look at http://www.namecheap.com/ as they sell .info domain for just $2.99/year and they accept Paypal as payment processor too!

Good topic of discussion, one that can help me too. I am looking and planning to purchase a domain too. Dont you think that, because .com is much more popular and professional than the other suffixes, it could bring and list your page on top when search engines are used? Correct me if I am wrong.

Paopaolar, buying a domain does not increase the popularity of your site, however when you work very hard to get your site popular, but you do not own that domain and all you efforts would be wasted if you lose your domain. as for .com or .info I cannot be certain but most of the time .com would get ranked easier.

With the expansion of the Web they needed to develop away to allow more sites without having to advance to IP6. So they came up with the .com which all was started with, to .info .gov .co .org and more. .com is the most popular that is why it is more expensive.. when you go to try and find a page do you not type the word with .com behind it? That is most used domain on the web...

Simply said, it's because .com domain is more popular. And also, it would looks more professional. If you own a business, then it's better to have .com domain than .info domain. Sounds more professional, and more reliable (at least, that's how the branding works, lol). But if it's only your personal blog, I think .info domain would be just fine.. I guess it wouldn't reduce your site's popularity. I highly believe that the main thing that affect popularity is the contents :). But well, maybe it would give less prestige, as .com domain is more popular..

.info as the name suggests is only for informative websites I guess and with a .com, you can make any type of website. But I don't think they are priced differently. There is a small price difference, like a dollar or two, which from a few days of online earnings can fill the void. Try hostgator or godaddy. Or even you can go for economic plans by bluehost.

Hi Paopaolar, I would save to get a dot com domain. Do not think short term. Somewhere in the future, when you want to sell your website for a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars, the buyers definitely want dot com domain. Nobody wants a dot info or dot cc domain. They can just register a cheap domain anytime.

As per my experience, domains extensions hardly play any role in a long run. The age and keywords in a domain are more inmporatn than .com or .info. Both are considered as TLDs so you can buy any of them and work more on the content and SEO of your site. All the best :)
