I went to the store today and finished getting items to make my traditional stuffing. Also got odds and ends I needed like milk, eggs, flour etc to round out what I needed. tomorrow I will bake cookies and dip pretzels in white almond bark and some orange colored chocolate I got from Hobby Lobby. Wednesday will be the Pumpkin Pies and pineapple salad. I learned how to make this from my husband's mother. I thought she would enjoy having some since she lives in a nursing home. Wednesday night I will throw the turkey in the oven and slow bake it. Wednesday morning I will make the pan of stuffing and baked beans from scratch. I usually make the green bean casserole, and broccoli and rice casserole and mashed potatoes, but we seem to be eating less so I am making adjustments to how many different dishes to make. What will you be having to make?

We will be going to my sister-in-laws for dinner, so we will have our Turkey probably over the weekend, we love the left overs. I will be taking carrots and also a cranberry salad made with oranges, cranberries, apples, sugar, black cherry jello and crushed pineapple. When I make our turkey dinner, I make my turkey dinner in an oven bag, it cuts the cooking time in half. I prepare everything the day before. I peel the potatoes, carrots, etc., the night before and soak them in water with a little salt so they don't discolor. Pies are made the day before during the day. Dressing I use sage and onion and add celery and butter to it. I put it in casserole dishes and baste it about one hour before the turkey is done. While the dressing is cooking I put on the carrots and potatoes, then everything is done all at once. Which works out great. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Hugs

You sound like you are prepared and ready. I prepare pretty much also the day before. Got the turkey thawing and going to put it in the oven tomorrow night. Even sleeping the smells wake me up so I get up and check on it and drain off the fat and juices. you have a good thanksgivng too and look forward to seeing you back here after the holidays.

We are just taking carrots over to my sister-in-laws. What I put down is how I do it when we are having Thanksgiving Dinner, or when I plan to make a Turkey and all the trimmings. Which we will be having either this weekend or the following weekend. Have fun preparing and Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Hugs

you said cranberry salad and joggled my brain LOL My mother had a recipe never did know where she got it. And she made a salad type. It takes a lot of preparation but man was it good. unfortunately I am usually the only one that likes anything cranberry so don't make it. I think I still have the recipe though if I do I will send it to you over the weekend you might enjoy trying it sometime. (you could always send me some) Have a wonderful dinner I will be glad when its over. But then I think us cooks always are ready to have it over.

It all sounds so good I am getting hungry already. I will be going to my mother's and she will be doing all of the cooking. I used to take dessert, but that was when I was with my ex and he carried it. I have enough problem getting myself up all of her stairs, so she just gets a frozen pie or something easy and I don't have to take anything.

Awww I hope you have a wonderful day sweetie! I hope the steps don't make you hurt to bad later in the day. I have a center isle so thats where all the food will be and they can eat when they want to. Once I am done I don't plan on doing much more. Tell your mother hello and give yourself a hug from me on Thanksgiving!

I am doing nothing, but going out to my roomie's folks to eat and bring her home. I have yet to cook a turkey, tho I suppose someday I might (since I'll be 60 in a few years I rather doubt it tho...)

I have you beat LOL I was in the Army. I was an only child so when the holidays come around I made sure that I did not take leave so someone else could go home that had a family. I made my first turkey at 19 years old in our Barracks. And have yet not to make one every year. I turn 60 this coming year. Wow I have made 40 birds LOL

Hi marie: I wish you had a wonderful thanskgiving day. In my case, we don't celebrate thanksgiving day in my town so I have made no plans for this day. However I know that is a very special tradition in your country and I hope you enjoy that day. ALVARO

Yep, already got reservations at the restaurant. I'm just not into working at home on a holiday I have off, since God knows I've had to work on plenty of them.

I live in a tourist town and the hotel buffets here run anywhere from 39.99 to 59.99. I could never eat that much for that price. Have a wonderful dinner. Come back and let me know what you ate. I hear the buffets can actually have some pretty outstanding menus.

Hi,marie2052~ It all sounds yummy We were planning to go downtown earlier since they have restaurants which serve turkeys. But then my American friends changed their mind and we are just gonna have dinner at my bf's room and everyone is gonna bring in a dish.He is planning to go to the import supermarket tomorrow and see if he could find a turkey there. It's usually hard to get by a turkey in the suburb and he doesn't really have an oven big enough in his place. So we're still working it out.I hope he could find one though.I've never had a turkey before and I LOVE meat~LOL~ Happy Thanksgiving to you beforehand~

Turkey is actually a good meat to eat for health. We went last year to a local restaurant to have turkey and dressing dinner. We got there about 2 in the afternoon and they were already out of it. So I made my turkey the very next day. Whoever makes the turkey make sure to tell them to pour off the fatty juices, and baste. I use melted butter to baste mine and have yet to ever have a dry turkey. Have a wonderfuli day hon!
