West Indies having lost the series and playing only for the pride, made an impressive start for the third and final test which commenced at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai today. The visitors were 267/2 at the end of the first day, Daven Bravo on 57 and Kirk Edwards on 65. Earlier in the day West Indies opted to bat after winning the toss on a very good batting pitch. Indian Opening bowlers, Ihant Sharma and Varun Aaron bowling at a good pace of 140 plus, tried to exploit the moisture in the pitch but the openers Adrian Barath and Brathwaite gave the visitors best ever opening stand for the last several years. They put on 137 runs before Barath was out to Ashwin. Ashwin also got the second opener Kirk Edwards out on the score of 150. Bravo and Edward then put on 117 runs without being separated. End of the day the visitors are solidly placed at 267/2. With India having to bat last on this Wankhede pitch do you feel West Indies could upset India?

really west indies make a impressive start and a slow start i think they tried to prevent them from clean sweep and to play well .i think this match is advancing towards draw and 267/2 is very good score for west indies at the end of first day.

Thank you ashudeep. West Indies had to be cautious as the pitch in the morning was fresh and lively. At the end of the day they scored 267 which might be little slow in modern day cricket but all right. Also as you say they have to guard against clean sweep.

It was a real good performance by West Indies in the third test. Of course, the series is lost now. So they can play without much pressure and that helps. The pitch though is pretty docile and the Indian bowlers found no joy literally. At 267/2 the first session tomorrow might indicate if the match would have a result or not!! Cheers! Ram
