Do you try and cook with local ingredients - what about the 100 mile diet -?

We all know about the high cost of fuel and the effect on food prices. I live in Eastern Canada and a lot of our food comes from Florida and California. Thousands of mile away. No wonder things are so expensive, especially when you are on senior's budget. So, entertaining relatives becomes a challenge. I am hosting an upcoming family get-together. Here is my menu of mostly local ingredients. Bison pie from Northern Ontario, Ham from a local butcher Locally grown butternut squash, Chutney made from community garden produce Fiddle Heads, those are frozen ostrich fern buds (they grow wild in wet areas) Bussels sprouts from Ontario Ice cream from a local factory Raspberry sause made when Ontario berries were in season. Do you cook with local produce?

No if I can get cheaper elsewhere because everything is just so expensive Quebec fruits and vegetables are more expensive than california so I buy california. I do by quebec meat only that is one thing I don't compromise on.

I buy quebec meat because that is what is sold here, there is the odd butcher that has calgary meat, but frankly I like the taste of quebec meat better.
