I know that a cellphone is a necessity as far as communication is concern. But does it have to be trendy???!! I know most of us doesn't want to be outdated from the latest gadgets like iphones, ipods, etc....i'll be hypocrite if i say i'm not drooling with those. For example for a cellphone does it have to be the latest model, just to show that you're one of those who can afford the trendy one.But in fairness to everyone, as long as it will make you happy then GO!!!

Some people are too showy when it comes to their latest gadget. Well,,, who cares anyway. If they can afford to buy it..fine. What is bad..when people trying to have the latest gadget even if it cost them borrowing or using their credit card over used and ended up broke.

I'm sure that some people consider the fanciest cellphone a status symbol, and I admit to drooling a little, too... but my cellphone is a simple flip phone with no camera, no internet access and not much of anything else. I can call people on it and they can call me and I can text on it and I use it as an alarm clock. I don't really need anything else, no matter how appealing or fancy it might be.

Well I think it depends on the needs of the user. Surely there are people who buy those new gadgets since they can afford them and it really nice to hear people saying "wow, that is definitely a new gadget or phone'. In such situation, I think that its more of being trendy and status symbol effect. But there are those that buy it considering that they find the need for such since they usually give the user the ability to do things that he or she cannot normally do with is old gadget. By having such, it adds more productivity to the user... Then in such a case, I think this not trendy but just rather practical and a necessity for the person to more productive. The label of being trendy just comes along more as a bonus.

Well personally i love the newest cellphone models like iphone. But i won't buying it just for show off to my friends. Actually for me the newest model of cellphone these days are too expensive for me, so i had rather choose the older model with similiar design with the newest one. Well the feature must be not too good compared to the new one but the price is more affordable for me.

To some people it is a status symbol. But for some specially peoplewho are always on business deals they need a trendy mobile to check all their schedules on mobile. If you are a person of materials, you will end up buying trendy gadget to boast your ego.

Hi roselyn, welcome to myLot. For me, cellphone is a convenience, not a status symbol; though many youngsters seem to think so. Some of my employees have got costlier/ higher specs phones than I have. Does that mean they are more successful than me? I don't think so. It certainly does not mean that just because a person has really costly phone, he/she is successful or rich. It all depends on a person's taste and techno-awareness. Some of the rich people I know use really basic mobile phones.

roselynvalencia..I think some think it is a status symbol but many just like the technology. Persoanlly I can't keep up with it and barely use my cell phone. My kids love them but they are out on their own so they can decide to buy whatever they want..

thanks for the reply... well maybe it really is a status symbol, but not to the point that they're crawling to buy one when there's a latest technology out there somewhere...

It depends on the person. For me, I have never bought a high tech cellphone just for status symbol. I bought my cell phone because I really needed it. Some people buy a cellphone to boast it to others, but never even use its applications. They just use it for texting and calling, which is a waste. For me, I love multimedia so I use every applications like games, watching movies, reading e-books, etc.

It used to be for me and it still is if I see a very expensive phone like the Apple Iphone 5 or something. But also it is a sign of show off. A well groomed person having an average phone would be a sign of smartness for me.

hi roselyn, I must say that I am probably one od the most old fashion person here in mylot..and I say that because I am definately not into trends or fads..I had a prepaid phone for many years but before that I had a phone with a contract...but I rarely used it and it was costing me unnecessary monies because I did not use it that much. then I got the prepaid...but every since those free phone were offered thats what I have...I have over 800 minutes on each of them..it may not seem like a lot but for what I use the cell phone for...its great for me...and I am just as proud as I can be..call me out dated but its ok with me...

Hi rose! For me it's not really a status symbol but more of a "convenience". Latest gadgets are designed to make our lives, somehow, easier. But then again, for some, it may be different.

I personally want a cellphone that will do the things that I would like it to do for my day to day life and makes me happy. So it is not like one of those old brick phones if you know what I mean. But I am not going out and buying a cellphone everytime a new awesome piece of technology comes out. Of course i would be lying if I didnt say that I would love to have a Droid or something like that, but is it practical, no. My sister on the other hand, and most of the people that I went to school with always wanted to have new phones all the time. Which is kind of annoying when you sister is begging your parents day after day to buy her this new phone and a month after she gets it she is telling you how she hates it and how this new phone that just came out is so much better. I think its an age thing. It also depends on how into technology you are i guess.
