After the big disappointment from Tendulkar, Virat and Ashwin carried the innings well.
Virath got a half century and Ashwin went on to complete his maiden century in test cricket.
This is after 50 years that a person is getting 5 wicket haul and the century.
So its a record for him.
This is his first test series and he also got the man of the match award in first test itself.
Now he made his maiden century in the third test match.Congratulations for the young Ashwin.
After making India all out for 482 WI has got a lead of 108, lets watch out howthey can capitalize on this lead.
Ashwin came into the team by replacing Harbhajan singh.
Now he replaces him as a very good all rounder.
Ashwin showed that he too can bat a little bit as Harbajan does.

I think Ashwin batted very sensibly and deservedly got the century. I liked the way he held the lower order together and also helped India avoid a tricky situation by having a solid partnership with Kohli (who after scoring 50 just lost focus and gifted his wicket away) and took India to relative safety in the match.
I think Ashwin is primarily a bowler who can bat. We should not put undue pressure on young cricketer by thinking of him already as all rounder. He has a long way to go. And he needs to keep performing. As certain Harbhajan Singh would be desperate to make a comeback! Healthy competition between players always benefits the team.

Sachin missed out on the 100th 100 by getting out on 94. But Ashwin played a real innings of fun. He scored his maiden century thus showing his all round credentials. This makes his claim for a permanent position in the team much stronger.
Cheers!

It's a great work by both Ashwin and Virat because when this pair came together at the fall of Dhoni's wicket, India still needed 60 runs to avoid a fallow on which looked a distinct possibility at that stage. It would have been a great humiliation for India to follow on on a flat track as it is. It was a great performance by Ashwin taking 5 wickets and scoring a century a feat repeated first time after 1962. As you say he has put lot of pressure on Harbhajan Singh. For Australia it is not possible to include 2 off spinners as the pitches there are most likely to be pace bowler friendly. He may have to wait until the next series in India to get a recall.

India was facing the follow on threat after the fall of dhonis wicket. Partnership between virat and ashwin helped india to avoid the follow on. Ashwin showed good resistance and went on to score the ton. He played sensibly with the tail enders to achieve the century.
