Love, what is it?

It seems like everything I read these days say love is the answer to our troubles. Well I think I know what love is, but when I try to describe it I can't. So here is what I came up with, love is first a feeling, that means it will be different for each of us. The strongest love I have had was for my babies. If I think about that I can feel it. But I also loved my horse, my house and a good steak for dinner. But that was never the feeling I had for my babies. Does this mean motherly love is the feeling I should remember and try to apply to the places where love is the answer? Am I the only one confused here? I understand in other languages there are many words for love. That might help.

Love is a word which has been used, misused and abused since the beginning of time. It is an emotion that may be strong and lasting or it could be the exact opposite. It depends on what or who the object of love is and the person who feels it. There's interpersonal love, love for a boy friend or girl friend; for a spouse; for one's children, parents, grandparents, siblings; for friends and neighbors; for fellow human beings. It can be love for an object, animals, work or job, food, hobby, etc. It varies from one concept to another and from person to person. I love my children, I love dogs, I love music, I love ice cream, I love John, I love Mary and most of all, I love God who loves me unconditionally. Some people confuse lust with love, others misuse it in order to get what they want and that's not right. Love can be a motivator which pushes us to achieve our goals. There are people who die for love - give up one's life for the sake of one's country or do it for the sake of a loved one. While others choose to end their life because of unrequited love (not really a solution). I wouldn't even dare criticize this act because the person who does it is "not guilty by reason of temporary insanity" Anyway, I've got to stop here... God bless you savypat and fill your life with true love, peace and joy.

If it was suggested that you project love to all with no judgement of any kind what would that look like? Or feel like?

That would be unconditional love, like God's love for us and our love for our children. Thank you for your response, savypat. Have a great day.

Love, What is it? A difficult question to answer, because each one us has our own definition of what love is. There maybe given definition by dictionaries but it is different when one define it by it's own meaning basing on what one really feels and understands it, and also on how was it being experience. For me love is of different kind, I believe that we love our parents, our friends, some things, placec etc., but each one of this can be describe in differrent manners, it maybe is difficult and we feel it in different ways...

Motherly love is certainly a love that is unmatched. There are alot of different levels to love but whenever I hear that love is the answer I always think of self love. I wonder if I will ever have the answer? For the most part I think I am ok with me but then there are times when I am down on myself too. I think that is when I feel the worst. I guess that's why I think that kind of love is "the answer."

I think that there are different kinds of love that apply to different things in our lives. Like you, the deepest love that I've ever experienced in my life has been the love that I feel for my children. I would seriously throw myself into oncoming traffic if it would mean that I would be able to save my children. The love that I have for my husband is close to the same love, but it is also something of companionship. As far as friends, the love that I have for friends means that I would help them in any way that I could. It also means that I have a lot of empathy for them when they are going through tough times in their lives. This is the reason that I really don't think there is just one way that love can be defined.

I think love is that feeling that makes us sacrifice our selves and forget about ourselves.

I wonder in what languages there are many words for love... not in german, dutch, french, english, hungarian or russian. there is just one word for love which is love. Love is a bundle of all kind of deep feelings.

Hi savypat, I don't think you are alone in being confused over the meaning of love. Some people even confuse love and lust, but of course the two are miles apart. I think that love is much more than words although some people toss the word around as though it meant very little. I think the has to do with caring to the extent of being willing to go out of our way to help someone. Most people will do anything they can to help their children, and maybe to a lesser extent, other family members and friends. It isn't tangible but it's something that we experience. It is a bond between people. Blessings.

Everone feels strongest love to something different but yes parents feel stronger love for their childeren and somehow goes for less their husbant/wife . But i dont think you need to apply love everywhere . I mean love is something greater better and its a feeling you cant describe and you dont need to . Other things that you said are Enjoyments and Likings . You like your horse , you dont love it , put your babies and your horse in one place well try to love one as the other . Not working . About eating and others thats enjoyment , you enjoy doing these thing its not love . But yes about animal you can love them but love is different and stronger about different things . If you get a better house what goes you did not love enough the old one . Thats the place you live yes you get attached and you can say you "love it" but its just that you enjoy living there . Anyway enjoyment is part of love too but its not that love is enjoyment :) Just my thinking :)
