Suggestion for promoting blogs?

Ok friends, So I have a blog up and running. I don't know if we are allowed to advertise on mylot otherwise I'd must introduce you guys to my blog. So first of all let me know if its allowed. :D Now coming to the point, I need suggestions for promoting my blog, getting traffic and stuff. Please let me know the tips. :)
