I have seen Jessica Soho’s tv episode of “suman” last Saturday, hence this topic. I like ating suman too, but because it is made of glutinous rice, not much. Though, if it’s the super sticky “suman”, I like eating it topped with some “kalamay” It’s said that in San Fernando Pampanga they have the “suman festival” . But their suman costs PhP10.00, but it’s the suman –ibos con latik kind. This is the kind of suman I like because of the “latik” and the super sticky, greenish suman. In Antipolo, suman sa ibos is also their famous product. But theirs only cost PhP5.00 per piece and so is our suman or we call it “ibos” here in our province. In Leyte, their suman is with chocolate sauce on top. In Marilao, Bulacan their suman is made of pinipig and they look so delicious! I’d like to taste that someday too. They also showed a restaurant serving suman with some slices of mango on top. I wonder how does that taste ? I guess, you as a Filipino , have tasted suman too.

Just like you shane, i am not much of a suman fanatic. But i do like it too. One suman is already enough to me. It's nakakaumay, after that. Puto maya? i think i don't know that, except a simple puto.

So it's with ginger. I think we don't have that here, because if we have that i will surely not like it because of the ginger. I had had a discussion about kakanins shane. I think, if you haven't found any discussion that will interest you for the day, you can choose from mine. I can see that you like my topics. And you have updated responding to my discussions.

yes, i agree Simplyd. maybe it's because of it's oily texture. puto maya in our dialect Simplyd. it's a kakanin too mixed with ginger. it taste good when it's paired with hot choco. maybe you have other term for it. but in our place we call it puto maya.

I love suman too! Beside the fact that it really tastes so good,.. it also shows how rich our culture as a Filipino is, right?! Well, my husband is from Marilao Bulacan and their version of "suman and kakanin" is really a blast. I love their conventional "suman sa bukid". It's wrapped in banana leaves, well-cooked/boiled in coconut milk until dries up... may dip in sugar, perfect in coffee or tea. My daughter loves it too. She can eat 2 packs of it *lol. It costs P25 packed of 5 sticks. There's also their version of cutsinta that's really tastes diff'rent from the common cutsinta. It's not cooked in a puto/cutsinta mold... it's cooked in "bilao" with a twist... not dry... there's jelly-like thing on top of it... sooo delicious. I remember 2 years ago, I ordered 1 medium size of bilao that costs around P900 and bring it to my parents and relatives in Makati... they loved it and asked for more *lol! They have also their version of pichi-pichi that really tastes so good! I always buy boxes of it and bring it to my friends and neighbors in Cavite. It costs P40 per box. It's good for 4-5 persons. I taste... rather think to pay a visit with my in-laws in Marilao this weekend *lol... your post makes me hungry with the suman and kakanin in my husband's birth place! Well, for now, I'll just text my husband to bring me home after office a bibingka and puto-bungbong! We're settled here in Dasmarinas Cavite where suman and kakanin is also famous, more in Imus. I can't wait for my puto bungbong hmmmp! What a suman, SIMPLYD!

... i know what suman is... it's just a phrase *lol... like "what a day!"... "what a word!"... i just make it sounds funny to say (rather write *lol) "suman" instead of "day"... ... anyway, 'just a misunderstanding... I will say again... what a suman! *lol nice post SIMPLYD!

I love suman and other native delicacies of my country. Suman is actually very delicious when it comes to native cakes, in fact, they are not really hard to prepare.

Yeah, i think suman is not that hard to prepare if you already have the casing for the suman, What is hard to make is the casing , though. Suman is delicious to pair with pancit! But i can also eat it as it is , topped with some condensed milk.

i love suman,i think we have many ways on how to cook and prepare suman, usually in my province in Ilocos and Pangasinan we used the leaves of banana tress and wrap it there, and we always cook this during lenten season and all saints day.

Yes, we also have a kind of suman wrapped in banana leaves and is rectangle in size. It's called suman latik. It is topped with latik, or cooked coconut milk with milk. I love it so much because it's so delicious! So, you only have that during those 2 occasion? Us, we can buy it in the market.

Yes, i am also curious how does the suman taste with ripe mango slices to pair it? So, you can cook a suman sa ibos. The way it was demonstrated cooking suman is tedious specially that your will still prepare the wrapper. That alone needs patience. But i am really glad that you can cook suman.

Actually i will just help my mom doing it suman sa ibos and suman sa lihiya. I really love to learn those. Becausr those what i love to eat i would like to cook also. Of course it is easy to manage things doing food like that instead of long travel to find one.Ü

To us here, sumaan sa lihiya, is the kind of suman where it is rectangularly shaped, greenish glutinous when cooked, and with a sauce so delicious, cooked with coconut milk and some condensed milk and some flavoring. It's one of my favorite kakanins. Is that your suman sa lihiya too?

Puto and bibingka are one of the kakanins. And i think suman is also a kakanin. I like bibingka too, but not much of puto.

Native delicacies - Suman varieties with puto and cutchinta
I have a special liking for food or delicacies wrapped in banana leaves so I really do love suman. Pampanga makes real good suman. My mother is from this place so she knows how to make the best suman ever. I don't like the Leyte suman because of the chocolate sauce. I think there is no better topping for suman than latik. I like the suman made of pinipig, it is so tastty. Suman sa ibos of Antipolo is great if eaten with sweet mangos and also if eatenmade with pure glutinous rice. Others add rice which ruins the taste. Another great tasting suman is the one made out of saging na butuan. It is so rare and could hardly found one these days but I really do like to taste this again. Hmmm now I am craving for suman.

The suman with a latik sauce, made of coconut milk cooked in white sugar , is the best for me. The sauce specially, is what makes it so delicious.

I grew up with suman in the province so I am not quite fascinated with this food, but occasionally, I eat suman especially puto maya because it is very yummy. I love it when it has lots of garlic extract mixed into it.

Actually, when one is exposed to having lots of an item, they form a dislike for it. And that goes with suman in your province. But once in a while eating of it, can really make you eat more. Puto, is another kind of kakanin.

Good thing I was able to watched the Jessica Soho's program last Saturday. One of featured story was about different versions of Suman here in the Philippines. My mouth was drooling seeing those Suman. I was bit hungry though as I watched the show. I don't know if in Visayas especially here in Cebu whether Suman is what we commonly known here as budbud. It is like suman too.

Oh yes, budbud, that's what Jessica mentioned in that show. I think that's the version of Visayas for the suman. Actually, suman can indeed have different versions, specially to the toppings.
