My 9 years old daughter have a taste of being one of the carollers last friday. Her school celebrated the 50th founding anniversary and it is a big celebration which prompted some alumnis from abroad to come home just to join the occassion. And my daughter was one of the member of Msgr. Crisostomo Cacho Angklong Ensemble, a newly formed group which plays bamboo instruments such as the anklong and marimba. They need funds to pay for the instrument and their costumes/Maria Clara dress so the principal thought of soliciting to the Alumni. The children went to each rooms assigned and they rendered music in each alumni class. I think the alumni are happy with their performance and they kept asking for more songs and was singing along. Some even took their pictures and video their performance. They are also been very generous and kind to share. The kids are tired, hungry but very happy with the experience. We uploaded the videos at youtube, and those interested to watch it, I used the tags, Columban College, angklong, alumni, etc. Its been a tradition here that children and adult goes from house to house to sing a Christmas carol. Sometimes the group is compose of family members, a neighborhood association or maybe a group of friends. It is one scene which would be truely missed by Filipinos abroad. Have you experienced joining the carollers during Christmas season? And what's the purpose of the money you earned from it?

I don't usually go and join Christmas carollers, for I have an eye problem, but I really love to watch carollers outside our house singing beautiful christmas songs, especially the kids, with their mascots dancing while they are singing, its really fun watching them.

It is really nice to see faces of little children having fun at night and roaming the neighborhood. The voices of these kids are fun to hear even if they doesn't have a formal voice training or a coach. And it is more fun to see the delight in their faces upon receiving the money. We don't have mascots here for the caroling but sometimes they have different gimmicks like using old cans, pots and other materials as musical instruments. Christmas wouldn't be the same without the carolers... Have a peaceful night!

Back in high school, I am a member of a counseling family and during Christmas we would visit the houses of our co-members, teachers and other friends to sing Christmas carols. The money we solicited from them was used in different outreach programs that our school sponsored. It's a fun a experience to sing along with the group, others would play the flute, while others do the guitars. Aside from the money we earned, I also remember going home with a full stomach. And why is that? Because every houses that we visit have prepared food for us. I missed it a lot. I don't get to sing now.

It is good to have a good cause for all the money solicited from the caroling. If people would only know the reason, they would be willing to share some money. I never joined any musical/singing group during my younger years. Music is not for me, I don't have a good voice and a good talent. I just love listening to all kinds of music and Christmas songs are one of my favorites.
