What did you think of "The Tommyknockers" by Stephen King?

On one of my discussions someone commented that they thought this book sucked. I was kind of shocked because I remembered really enjoying the book. So, I went back and re-read it. I still think it was a great book. It was well-written, very creative and original, as are all of Stephen King's books, the characters were solid and believable, the story well fleshed out but not overdone. In fact, it kept me riveted, just like it did the first time I read it. I had to come to the conclusion that the person who said the book sucked just didn't care for the story itself. What do you think?

I have read all of his books and this one was not my favorite. It was still good but I liked his others much better.

The story itself wasn't really one of my favorites. There were some really nasty things going on in that book and I really hated those aliens. And poor Peter! But I think it was still great quality and certainly up to sniff with his other books.

Were you referring to moi? Little ol' me? Tommyknockers sucked out loud. In fact, if you are very still and quiet, that whirling, windy sound is the sound of copies of this book sucking out loud, all around the world. The characters and plot were interesting, just very poorly executed. King's worst that I've read, by a country mile!

Well, of course I was referring to li'l ole you. LOL! That comment really stuck with me and I just couldn't let it go. I just had to go back and find out why you said the book sucked and I still don't see it. I agree it wasn't his best but I still thought it was darn good. Maybe I'm comparing it to alot of the other trash I've read - well, no maybe about that. And, maybe it is King's worst - I sure can't think of another that I would nominate - but I still think his worst beats many others hands down. Still, more people seem to agree with you than with me. Several of my friends were shocked that I would even ask the question. So, there you go. Now you know that if you ever read a book critique by me, you'll have to take it with a grain of salt.

I liked the book. I hated the movie. The book was interesting though a little weird. I don't really like movies about aliens that much. The other movie of his that i saw that kind of ruined it for me was The Langoliers. That story was good and then I saw the movie and was horrified! I do have to say that Tommyknockers was not one of my favorites and it possibly was pretty low on the list. Though I do like the poem he made from it: Late last night and the night before/ Tommyknockers Tommyknockers knocking at my door/ I wanna go out but don't know if i can/ Cause I'm too afraid of the Tommyknocker man! (i might have changed a few of the unimportant words by mistake)

It seems as though your's is the general consensus, even among my friends. Ah well.
