Okay so I work at a supermarket and many people buy different things for there holiday dinners. for Thanksgiving we always have turkey and all the sides and everything and we always eat too much. We also always have pie for desert. Its just a tradition. For Christmas we always have Ham, I know that some people have turkey, but my family always has Ham and all the fixings and cake and pie and cookies for desert. And for New years eve we just snack and have a party. Then next day for New years dinner we always have pork and saurkraut. My question is what do you usually have for your Holiday meals. I am really curious to see what different people have. Also if you have differnt holidays because of your religion or where you live feel free to add them in too I love learning about differnt people and areas of the world.

Hello breezors and welcome to myLot. We had the usual for Thanksgiving, turkey and stuffing sweet potato casserole with marshmallow on top, mashed potatoes and crescent rolls, carrot, celery sticks, olives and cranberry sauce. And desserts pumpkin pie, dutch apple pie and pecan pie. So much that we are still eating on it. I took the bones and made a broth added some carrots and celery and will freeze it for dumplings later. We will have the same for Christmas. The most important thing is family.

On the eve of Christmas, i i would prepare the ham, chicken macaroni salad, spaghetti and buko salad for the noche buena and for Christmas as well. Then since it's the birthday of my daughter also on Christmas day, on that day, after we have eaten out for our lunch after doing some shopping and going to church, we would buy her birthday cake and other foods such as ice cream etc. so i don't have to cook for her small family party in the afternoon.

Yeah, i think everyone who believes in Christmas celerbated it on Christmas eve in their own ways. Buko Salad is easy to prepare. You can look for it at goggle.com.ph, breezors . I am sure you will like it so much.

Oh, noche buena sounds like what we do on Christmas eve except we just dont call it that. Usually we all play scrabble though and my grandma always beats everyone at that game. Buko salad sounds really yummy. I just found out the other year that I actually like cocnut so i might have to try something like that.

At my parents we do the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with mashed potatoes turkey, stuffing, and everyone bringing an assortment of sides. For Christmas we will be at my in-laws. It will either be a lamb or a roast beast (normally a tenderloin) bread pudding and other sides.

depending on the size of Thanksgiving, we will have a ham along with the turkey. My hubby hates ham, so i do not usually make it even though it is one of my favorites. I always make sure to take some of the leftovers from my mom.

I never thought of having lamb or roast beef for Christmas dinner that would be the best dinner ever. We always just do ham and I dont like ham.

Yeah ham is not my favorite thing in the world. I really only like ham sometimes. I really would llike to try lamb for on of the holidays though. Then it would not feel like such a expensive piece of meat.

Thats not fun at all. You should have your family or friends save some for you so that you can have some when you are done working.

That sounds cool that you do it with your dorm friends. Gotta learn to do those dishes too though. I love how there are so many other things for people to eat during the holiday and how delicious it can all be.

My family always has a turkey for Thanksgiving AND Christmas. My mom keeps asking if she can mix it up every year and make something different for Christmas - but my family always wants Turkey! She really wants to do something like a lasagna but they all say no. Personally, I don't eat Turkey, so I don't care :-D However I just gotta have the sides!!! Potatoes, green beans, stuffing, yum yum yum. So I guess if she changed it up and didn't serve turkey, I'd miss out on all that! And dessert - yum, you are making me wish I brought some leftover dessert to work with me today. That is my favorite part. I make a few pumpkin pies throughout Nov and Dec because it is my absolute favorite.

OOHHH! Pumpkin Pie is my favorite too. And yeah my grandma is always asking the same thing is she can make different things and what not, but everyone always wants Turkey for thanksgiving, ham for christman, pork for new years and so on. My honestly my favorite thing is all the sides too. Brocoli casserole, green bean cassorole and most of all mashed potatoes. God do I love the mashed potatoes. lol. and then the dessert you cant have holiday dinners without the desserts. Thats the best part. And you have to eat them no matter how full you feel and you always have to try to take some home with you too so you can snack on it later.

We do our dinners the same as you do. On my husbands side though she cooks a ham and a turkey on Christmas. Or sometimes they get KFC chicken and do a ham. There is usually a few more eating dinner at Christmas then at Thanksgiving so she has to make more food. We usually vary on the side dishes. My family likes to try out different vegetable sides sometimes. We also are the only ones I know that make stuffing patties. You mix up your stuffing and form it into a patty and fry it in butter. Best thing ever!

I have never heard of stuffing patties before but that definatly gives me a good idea for what to do with all of that left over stuffing i have left over from thanksgiving. I have heard of people doing both turkey and ham on christmas but I could never imagine buying all fo that it has to be expensive but I guess you could get the turkey for pretty cheap after thanksgiving and then freeze it for christmas use.

This Christmas it happens I will be having turkey. But, usually for Christmas, I am in the mood for roast pork with mushrooms gravy, pierogy (dumplings), kielbasa (Polish sausage) and maybe some asparagus spears. For desert, there will be mint ice cream.

I will definatly have to try having mushroom gravy with the pork. We always just do a pork roast with saurkraut adn chicken gravy. But changing it to mushroom gravy with onions in it too would be very delicious.

My family handles all of the hardcore cooking but usually I will make an apple or a chocolate pie dessert! My relatives love my creations and pretty much beg me to bring them along when we celebrate the holidays! On rare occassions, I'll make a delicious banana pudding and it makes the little ones so happy for some reason! I love holiday meals even though I lack the skills to prepare one, but that's why I have a hearty blend of family members that each have their on specialties! Thanksgiving was a blast and honestly I cannot wait until Christmas because they'll have good food, good fellowship, and a lot of merry togetherness!

Your desserts sound so good and i bet that my fiances kids would love your banana pudding too, I never understood why kids loved bananas so much. I honestly cannot wait until New Years Eve. This is the first time that me and my fiance will have a new years eve on our own. Last year we were living at my grandparents. And he has some good plans for what we are going to munch on.

We always have something new and interesting, some specialties with like plums and some weird stuff like that, or some exotic fish or turkey but in a strange way. And my step-mother always bakes some delicious cakes that I just can't resist not to enjoy, they're something like that Kinder-Pingui stuff.. It's just awesome when holidays come, I can't wait to stuff myself with all the delicious foods.

Honestly that sounds really cool I have never thought of doing something like that. But we kind of do that every night for dinner we never really eat the same thing twice. So I guess that having the traditional dinners every holiday is kind of a change of things for us then.
