I wrote a story about the city of Springfield Missouri closing down a homeless camp. Now some guy wants to close a veterans homeless shelter because it is next to his home. These men and women go to war to keep the USA free from all the BS and some come back and have no home to call home! The preacher helping the homeless is there at this shelter trying to help the vets. If I had been in the war to fight for this country and came home and didn't have a home and was looking at being kicked out of this homeless shelter I don't know what I would do but it would really make me think what the heck did I put my life on the line and they are wanting to put me on the streets what the FART are people thinking! What would you think if you was a homeless vet? Wouldn't you be pissed off about this? What would you do? Would you think that you wasted your life on ungrateful people? Let's stop this mess and keep our vets in a home give them something to look forward too after all the USA wouldn't be free as it is if they hadn't fought for our freedome! Stop letting our vets be homeless!

I agree with you 100 percent. I can't believe that someone or a group of people would be upset about a shelter being next door to them for our veterans. What is this world coming to. It's a "all about me" world and its totally disgusting. I bet that guy that wants it closed down never went to war or served our country. He is a horrible person to be thinking this way. I would have no problem with a shelter for veterans next door to me. In fact I would go and volunteer my services to help these men and women. The vets suffer enough with injuries and mental problems after fighting in wars, then they come home and get nothing for the country they have defended. Its all dispicable in my opinion and needs to be stopped now.

My husband and I was watching this on the news and it brought tears to our eyes and made me so mad I had to let the rest of the country know what is going on in our own back yards. I seen on the news about these knew people running for this or that office the president of the USA and see what these politicians are and are not doing, not wanting to pass a tax increas on the rich but on the poor and wonder if any of these men or women ever served in the armed forces. Just makes me not to vote for some of them because of what they believe or don't believe. And the speaker of the house just is one of them that make me really wonder what is going on with these people. I want to scream how mad I am at these people that can't see outside of the box they live in! Sorry for the rant but just got to speak up can't stand it when I see an injustice going on in this blank blank world. God must be sitting up there and just shaking HIS head at the way this world is going. Can't we all live in peace and leave all the bull stuff out of life?

Hi free_man ran across your story by just checking interests. My mother's family grew up in Springfield,Mo. I am originally from Missouri myself. I am also a WAC Vet. So I understand your concern on the homeless situation. They are doing the same thing here in Florida. Can't tell anyone a solution but make the homeless regardless Vet or just homeless move on down to another spot til they tire of that one and make them move again. Its deffinately NOT a solution specially when I see so many condos that have been built here where I live and basically empty. And if all this is not enough I suppose you know the government is now trying to take the men and women that retired from the military their medical away now. And thats what a lot of us looked for was the retirement pay and medical because we served. my husband is 23 years Air Force. I did not do 20 but served twice during two wars none the less in the Army as a Medical specialist. With so many out of work now and so many homeless it seems a hopeless situation until voters can sincerely turn the government issue and state issues around.

My mother was in a war don't remember when she said it was she was a nurse and when she got out of the war she helped build stuff for the war. I have three brothers that was in the Vietnam war and have heard all kinds of things they went through. My husband was in the Navy. I am upset about this because there is a place where these homeless vets live it is in the middle of a rural area it is a nice building and there is one man that lives across the street and said his wife was bothered by some of these vets and he wants them to be moved out of that building. It showed the inside of the place where these vets live and didn't any of them look like they could be bothering anyone. I get sick when I hear on the news that our vets are being shunned and homeless. I seen this one story of homeless vets that have children and are single. Made me sick. I think I will call my congress man to speak out against this! It was bad enough when I seen this story about homeless living in tents on a preachers church lot but this is going too far. You and a lot of other vets went to wars to fight for our freedoms and it seems like the country that you and other vets fought for is turning their backs on you and other vets. Thank you for doing your best for your country. Tell your husband I said thank you for his service in the Air Force! I wish you and all vets the best! May God bless you and yours! I didn't know they wer trying to take the medical away from the vets but will look into it.

I don't think its our job to provide homes for people who don't have a home. It's not like our government doesn't spend $60 Billion a year on veteran benefits, not including free tuition and other benefits. No, the freedom that our veterans and service men today fought to protect, was the freedom to pursue happiness. Not a freedom to confiscate other peoples property, and give it to others. It's up to each individual, included vets, to work, work hard, and earn a place to live. Just like everyone else.

Sure I can see your point of all of us having jobs. But what if there isn't jobs or your not trained enough. These men and women put their lives on the line for those of us who don't want to fight for our own rights. Also for those of us that are too young or too old or unable to be in the service. The vets that are disabled or unable to do for themselves without the aide of others don't deserve to be treated like animals! How would you feel if it was you your mother father brother sister aunt uncle or someone else that was kin to you that had gone in the armed services and got out and found yourself suddnely homeless? You wouldn't want or expect or think you would deserve help? Have you ever help in your life? Think about it these men and women do what for all of the armed services and their country to keep all of us free from what ever evil to come on this country!
