Too Fat to remain at home! ( a rant)

Well it has happened, A mother of a obese honor student had her child taken away because he was too fat. Now the foster family is having trouble getting him to the programs he needs so the State is trying to either give the family money or put him in another foster home. Really? So just because a mother takes her son in to get help for a weight problem she loses her child? And now the kid is in a strange home without the love of his mother? Now many eat when they ares stressed so what do you think he will do? And what about his grades, you know the most important thing the State cares about? Don't they know if a child is stressed his grades may go down? And the thing I keep thinking is about the parents out there who may just keep Johnny or Jane at home than take them to the doctor , fearing they will lose their kids. So the food Nazis think this will help kids when it will hurt them. But as long as they punish the parents And help the kids lose weight , who cares about what a child feels!

OMG, sounds like a child abuse. The child will definitely be affected psychologically. It would eventually affect the child' development, growth and future. This is horrible.

The child will blame himself for the weight and may go to the other extreme, and become anorexic.

He might also be so resentful and have such low self-esteem he could become the next one to shoot up his school to get back at everyone -- or he might start at the social services office. First they make the child think being fat is almost criminal and make his parents "bad guys." Then they take hm away from the love he's known at home (presuming his parents do love him. It's true we don't know all the facts. All I know about this story is what I've read here.) He may feel his foster parents are starving him, and he will, no doubt, be forced to eat a lot of stuff he's not used to and may not like. I don't know how old this child is, but depending upon his age, this could add up to a traumatic experience that could make him come unglued. It's possible the child could then focus all his anger and frustration at the system and the social workers and the doctor who did this to him. It's not well-adjusted kids that become the shooters at their schools or other public places. It's also possible he could kill himself if he's miserable enough. I seem to recall that Ronald Reagan said some of the most fearsome words one can hear are "I'm from the government and I'm hear to help you." I wonder how "helped" this boy feels. Disclaimer: I am biased. I and my family and also my next-door neighbor and her family have been victims of social services interventions. I wonder if my daughter would still be alive today had they not intervened in our lives. And what they did to my neighbor was also disgraceful when she tried to get help for her family (too complicated to get into here) and wound up having her daughter turned against her and taken away and then the social worker blabbed details about the case in public at the office of the school where she was a regular volunteer.

I understand. I may be in the middle leaning left I almost fall over But I do agree some government suits should stay the f2ck away from us! I wouldn't blame this child if he Never trusts Anyone And if given the chance , he comes back and shoots up the place. Sadly I think he may harm himself instead. The kid is old enough to be an honors student so I assume he is 12 or older? The one time where Nothing feels right.

On the face of it, this sounds like an appalling story. But I don't know the full details, or why the child is so obese in the first place. It could be concluded that allowing your child to become so obese that his health is threatened is a form of neglect, and there are few who would argue against a neglected child receiving state intervention.

Ok. But by the guidelines there are about one third of children are obese. So if Every parent with an obese child lose custody, where are we going to put all these kids? I guess there will be fat farms for kids. All the kids will be taken away and placed in these " farms" and can not get out until they are thin or 18 or both.

I'm not suggesting that they take ANY of these kids from their families. I just stated that I didn't know the facts of this particular case, and was suggesting that it should be considered that the parents are at fault for allowing their child to become so obese that it is a major health risk. I'm assuming of course that this child is seriously obese. Neither am I stating that the parents ARE at fault, merely that it should be considered. What I would suggest is that the government works with various health bodies and welfare agencies to tackles the issues of junior obesity. Parents who allow their children to become overweight may be doing so for a variety of reasons, but some could be overcome with education about better food choices and preparation.

But the government doesn't want to do that. If they made it easier to buy fresh food at affordable prices would help. They could also make the streets safer so the kids could go out and play and have recess in Every school. But they are not doing that. What the food Nazis deem junk food , is the cheapest food. kids are inside playing videogames , where they are safe . And schools are so busy teaching to the test , that recess is being cut. So the government is Only blaming the parents. It shows in this action. That is why they are planning to take all these kids away. But then again being fat is Always seen as the person's fault Here. And I assume they want to pull these kids away so no one can see them. Kid warehouses are coming. It will cost More money than getting fresher , cheaper food , but that is what they want.

This is total fascism on the part of the "authorities." I think you're right about the fact that people are going to be afraid to get help for overweight children, because of the fears that they may be taken away. You're right about the whole story. How horrible for the entire family!

hi sarahruthbeth I hate this thing as its not always the moms fault that her child is obese I had problems with my little girl as her thyroid gland was not working properly and she gained weight and was too heavy , but thank God the state did n ot interfere and I took her to our pediarican and he put her on child doses of thyroid and the weight came off in no time. so after all I was not a bad mom.I think parents with heavy children should get them to the family doctor and whom ever else may be necessary as a lot of obese children are not even big eaters.let the parents and their doctors remedy the situations and state butt the hell out.let the food nazis pick on someone else for a change. As a diabetic who works with her doctor to be a healthy diabetic the thing I hate is someone who does not even know me come out" you are not going to eat that are you?"I have got so I say" why yes, why?" they invariably will say"but its full of calories and some sugar" I have now come up with,"Are you a dietician? if not shut the hell up okay?"So its blunt and even insulting but anyone who is crass enough to pick on a total stranger can darn well take that remark of mine or leave me alone. So many people in child welfare mean well but do not even have children of their own and actually do not know one thing about rearing a c hild.

You said something that I didn't even think of, a family doctor. I don't think this mom Had a family doctor. If she had , They wouldn't have taken her kid. Why? The doctor would be able to tell the food Naxis the child is under his/her care. I believe she took her son to the emergency room. And you know they saw a poor mom and assumed she was the problem. So they took him away. I heard she has a lawyer so this isn't done yet!

WTF!!!! Don't they have better to do? And how exactly do they come to the conclusion that the parents don't feed the child right? From what you mentioned, no tests are done to see if there is anything wrong with the child. It could be that he is having health problem. Wouldn't it be better to monitor the parents before they take the child away?

I know this was post 2 month ago I just happen to stumble upon it! at the end of the day no one should take a child away from their parent unless the child is suffering abuse! a child may be over weight but that is not abuse! and who in the right mind would think the government or state is better fitted to look after any children any way? the government can't even look after the country let alone a child who no one knows and no one cares! over weight is up to the individual some people are fat and some are not that is the human race! that is who we are and no one in the world should[or even think] about taking a child away from a parent! that to me is abuse big time! and as a parent I would face court not matter what!

You would be surprised. Many food Nazis think the Only way they can save children is to take them away from parents who are killing them! That's how they see it! They are so wrong And they will find this out when they " Have to" take more kids away. Where are we going to put these kids? They didn't think this all out and once a parent goes to court to sue and win this practice will stop!

I think that is a horrible story. I cannot believe that they will go to those lengths to have a child lose weight. Now I know this country is going to the dogs. They call it a free country, well it sounds like a communist country to me. We cannot eat what we want to eat, we cannot drink what we want to drink, now they want to restrict that internet on us. What is going on. The child is obviously stressed and scared. The parents are probably sick over this whole thing. You're right, parents all across the country will no longer bring their kids to doctors for weight problems and some might even keep them out of school. We have to be afraid of everything these days. I remember a time when people were afraid of criminals, now the criminal is the government.

The government has always been crooked. Why else would they come up with the fairy tale one bullet theory?Or the reason for Vietnam ? Iraq? They lie for a living!

Well then, it's time we start lying for a living also. LOL. I know, the one bullet theory, what a joke. I read a bout all about the Bonanno family, and at the end of the book, it explains in detail how Kennedy was killed. So, that was the truth. But, you're right, the government has always lied, but at least years ago, they did it nicely. Now, they just wind up doing stupid things.
