I usually type fast when using my desktop keyboard. But when using laptop, my hands just won't type as fast as the usual keyboard. Laptop keyboard are closer to each other and I have a big hand, this makes it difficult for me. And some computers now will be having touch screen keyboard, that makes the typing job most difficult.

I can imagine the challenge that you have to go through. I have big hands as well and I really have this difficulty when I type on small keyboards, especially netbooks that always have keyboard layouts that have keys close to each other. The tip of my fingers are usually close to each other and I end up pressing the wrong letters or numbers. For that, I resolve it by connecting an external keyboard that has the usual keyboard layout and size. That way, I won't have a hard time with the layout of the keyboard on those small netbooks, and I won't get to tarnish the printed letters or characters due to so much typing. With touch screens, I do get troubled at times. Even with Smart Phones that are quite abundant now a days. I still get words incorrectly spelled. Unlike the keyboards that have guides on the letters F and J, touch screen is definitely something that you need to look at until you get the hang of where you should press. Familiarity would help later on when one continually uses it.

On laptops, the keyboard layout is much better for me compared to those netbooks with keys too close to each other due to it's size. I really prefer laptops or notebooks over netbooks. (^_^") Indeed. However, since you are also looking at the screen where the words that you are typing appear, you also get to see if you are already typing something wrong. Also, most of them would have word suggestions that you can just tap on if the word that you are about to spell gets recognized by the gadget. Just have to install something if the language that you are typing isn't English as most gadgets have auto-spell assists in the English language.

Connecting an external keyboard is a good idea and its not that costly too so that makes it beneficial to me. But I think, that if I practice a lot, maybe I will be good in typing at laptop too just as what you said. Touch screens don't have touch reference marks. That way, you still need to place look at the keyboard screen to type.

Yes, I do have the same experience as what you have. I started with the use of the keyboard in the desktop and when I transferred to the laptop, it was very difficult at first. But somehow, by constant use, I was able to adjust and later on find it easy. Now, I am using and iPad and it is once avian quite difficult to type since its just the screen that you type to. I feel awkward and my typing is quite slow. But I am sure that by constant use, it will be easy later on. It is just a matter of adjusting.

Practice makes perfect. I'm hoping that laptop keys will be bigger so that I can fit my fingers well. :)

Actually what happenes they keyboard of laptop and desktop is different laptop has soft buttons. When I learned typing i could typing in speed on my desktop as i learned on typewriter. The button of typewriter is too hard to type but the button of keyboard are soft same like as there is a difference between laptop's button and desktop keyboards button.

You are right, laptop keyboards are softer than desktop keyboards and typewriter is the worst. We just need to get practice to be better in typing laptops.

I think, when we practice typing using keyboard, we will get use to it and our speed will then increase. It's just a matter of time.

Just before computers came in I did a year of typing class on a typewriter, I could touch type but when computers came in I couldn't and still cant touch type on a computer keyboard so I can understand how a laptop could be different.

Then we should start to practice now for us to improve our typing in laptop keyboard.

It is really slightly different to type your words from a standard desktop keyboard then shifting to a laptop keyboard. The structure of the letters from the keys of the desktop and laptop, you have to practice it.

Hand and mind coordination is important in typing fast our keyboards. Your hand was used to typing keyboards that's why using desktop keyboards is difficult.

yup that's true. I can type faster using a typical keyboard than using my laptop. But I'm getting used to type using my laptop and I use my laptop most of the time. I think the reason why we can't type faster using laptop because the keys are closer to each other and obviously keys are smaller compare to a keyboard.

You are right. With the constant use of laptop, we can enhance our typing speed.

We have the same situation bro. At home, I use laptop, while in the office, its the desktop keyboard. That's why we can differentiate our typing speed. And most of the time, we are at the office, so practicing in laptop keyboard is less.

LoL , we are the like that have a big hand . The laptop have the smaller keys and I think this is difficult for us . But the touch screen , I do not think there are any problems becaus e we can use our nails and it really do a great job .
• Philippines

Touch screen keyboards are easier to hit since we have our nails. But in terms of fast typing, I think it will be slower. Maybe, in the future, when everything is touch screen, then, we can improve our typing skill for that type.

I agree. If you will ask me what i prefer to use in typing via personal computer I'd rather choose the desktop type. Actually, me too is having a hard time using laptop in typing. But now, I can already type fast as i could either desktop or laptop by continously using laptop. And one thing i proved to myself that saying " Practice makes perfect" is absolutely correct. Keep on practicing or using laptop for you to be skilled enough in typing using laptop.

Correct, practice really makes perfect. Only time can tell when we can master typing laptop keyboard.
