I'm pretty sure I have my days and nights mixed up

So I've been laid off for a month now. The first week of having no job all I did was sleep and it was great! For so long I had only been sleeping like 4-5 hours each day then all the sudden I got to sleep alllll day! Following that week, I would get up and get the kids off to school then later in the day lay down for a 2-3 hour nap. Then go to be at night like usual. Well I've noticed that here lately I go to bed about Midnight and wake up by 4 a.m. then after getting the kids to school I'll end up falling back asleep and sleeping allll day. So now it's like Im taking my nap at night instead of the day. I've tried drinking coffee during the day to help me stay away but its just not helping. Any advice on how to get this switched back around to where I sleep during the night and I am up during the day?

My hours are early to rise which is good. I like that, only routinely it is often too early. Anything earlier than five in the morning is just too difficult later on. Now that the daylight hours are shorter that too can throw me off. I find caffeine does upset my sleep pattern and know to really get myself regular I need to quit. Not napping when I am exhausted didn’t work for me that well. I’ve adapted to the change of less regularity but I am able to live that way. If something comes along that demands specific hours it will be jeopardy all over again.

Hi jenna, It will take sometime before you get used to it. But one thing that you can do maybe is to do a lot of work at home. hence you won't think of sleeping during the day. Think about something that you should do and that you should tell yourself that you have to finish those tasks. Jogging and some exercise too might help. I am sure that in the evening you will have a really nice and long sleep.

You're welcome jenna If you keep doing these things everyday, you will surely go back to the normal sleeping or waking up time.

Yesterday I ended up staying away all day and doing house work so that I wouldn't get tired and fall asleep. But here I am back awake at freaking 4 a.m. LOL. Today I'm going to try doing some exercises and maybe take the dog for a mile walk depending on how cold it is to help me with exercise! Thanks for the advice sweetie

I think you need to organize your daily schedule in such a way so that you work during day and sleep at night. And stick to schedule no matter what. You can do household chores, do grocery shopping, taking care your kids and finish personal work during day. And only take nap during day. Also you can exercise and do fitness workouts in morning. So that by night time you will be tired and ready to sleep. You will need to be disciplined and motivated to attain success.

That's what I'm doing today. I got up and started washing dishes and cleaning the house to make myself stay awake. So far its working thank goodness. Usually I'd be asleep already. I've got to try to stay off the computer though LOL because sitting down on the couch relaxes me and makes me want to go to sleep. I do have some good exercise videos that I can start doing in the morning! I might just start that tomorrow after everyone's off to school and work! Thanks for your advice!

Hi Jenna People like you and I that have worked most of our life in evenings and nights will find it harder to sleep at night when we are off. My last job was about 10 years ago before I became disabled, and I still like time to myself and stay up til midnight or so. Then I sleep in in the mmornings. I talked to both my doctors and they asked how long I had worked like this and I said practically all my life and they said my biological clock would most likely not change now. Plus being up all nights when having children, etc. My Rhuematologist did tell me to get a sleeping patch to go over my eyes but I never did. My family doctor put me on Ambien, and it works fine. So if i want to go to bed earlier than just letting me sleep when I want I take it at 7 pm or 8pm. It gives me about an hour to be on mylot before I start drifting off. If I don't take it, I will be up all hours of the night. Its just crazy to feel you never need to sleep or feel sleepy. Hope you can get in a routine soon. did you get the recipes I sent you? Did you make dinner? You never said. HOpe you weren't ill over the holidays. Have a nice day

Hi Marie! yes I did get your recipes and nope I didn't cook. We had a change of plans and had Thanksgiving at my sisters house with my mom and dad there. I kept them though for next year! and CANT wait!! I have Ambien as well, but I don't take it every night. It does help me sleep and puts me in a deep sleep. My problem is sometime I'll forget about it and then its already 10:30 and thats to late for me to take it because I wont get up to get the kids ready in the morning. I've also had it to where I take it around 8 or so and then Im still wide awake at 3-4. Then come 10-12 that morning I'm exhausted so I'll lay down for a nap again LOL This morning instead of staying up I went back to sleep until 10:30 SO I'm gonna attempt to clean house allll day that way I wont sit down and get tired. Hoping that if I stay up today I'll sleep better tonight!

About sleep its just that you must have your daily habit in sleep. You'll sleep again what do you usually do.You make drink milk at night that would really help in falling you to sleep. At daytime since you want to be awake. Thus keep yourself busy at daytime.Do some works then thus that would adjust your sleep habit. Its not good that you sleep all the time that would result to hypersomnia. You must have a sleep that sought to your age that has been needed all the way.God luck god bless.
