My classmate also told me that when you have many piercings in your ears, you can not donate a blood. I don't know what is the connection of it from donating blood. So with tattoo also. I haven't ask whether it is true or not.

I think it's a precautionary measure on the part of the hospital or the blood bank your donating your blood to. I don't think that tattooing in general makes your blood not good to donate. There's however a possibility that the tattooing instruments used may not be hygienic. And I think they have some sort of prescription time wherein you can donate blood even if you have a tattoo. I'm not sure how long, though, you have to wait before you're allowed to donate your blood.

Here in Australia there is an amount of time you have to wait from when you get a tattoo before you can give blood, I am not sure how long that is, it isn't too long as a friend of mine gave blood not so long ago and she got a tattoo about a year ago...

I know that years ago, they wouldn't allow you to donate blood if you had a tatoo because of the risk of disease or infection. These days, I am not sure. I think that it is possible to donate blood even if you have tatoos now, but they will have to test your blood first. Then again, I believe that testing is protocol now anyway. My best advice is to call your local Red Cross and ask what their regulations are.

Hi, You need to wait for at least 12 months after getting a tattoo before you can participate in blood donation campaign. After one year, one should be able to know if one has contracted any blood borne diseases like HIV or Hepatitis via a tattoo needle. Getting your tattoo done in a reputable parlor is not a guarantee and blood banks nowadays are taking no chances by accepting contaminated blood.
