Still now a very common sight in many a rural area or semi-urban area in India.

A common sight that greets a visitor to many a rural area or semi-urban area in India still now is that of goats being butchered on the road side, especially on Sundays. The heart-rending cries of the animals, the unfortunate victims of civilized gluttons, do not seem to reach the ears of animal lovers, who shout all the time for the prevention of cruelty to animals. As far as I know, in civilized countries of Europe and America, animals for food are killed after making them unconscious with anaethesia so that they die painlessly. But even in the 21st century in some parts of our country, brutality towards animals is displayed in broad daylight without sparing any sympathetic thought. Is it justified? Do you support it? Is not it the duty of common people like us to protest against this sort of cruelty to animals and compel the administration to take strong action against it?

Yes, its very unfortunate that things like this are happening brazenly in our country right under the nose of the authorities who couldn`t care less. The beings in power are totally corrupt and take bribes from all and sundry. Thats why these things happen. The NGO`s who try to stop such practices are weak and can`t do anything except shout from the rooftops. The politicians have a finger in each pie and don`t care and the police take bribes. Nobody cares and so the butchery goes on.

I think corruption is no doubt a factor but is not the only factor behind this practice of cruelty to animals. The deaf and dumb attitude of the administration is also responsible for it.

Glad to know that you are a vegetarian, but I must remind you that plant is also a living creature, it has also life like us. So for our survival, we have to kill some one but that should be done in a dignified way so that it never hurts others.

This is not only the picture in rural areas or semi-urban areas, you may find it even in big cities. The main reason is lack of civic sense which is to be taught from childhood and the parents play a vital in imparting this good virtue in their kids.

You are wrong in saying that it still is a common sight. It always has been a common sight in our country. The animals are butchered mercilessly in India because they are imported to western countries as they generate a lot of revenue. Some of these butchering takes place legally as well as illegally. It is not only common in rural areas or semi-urban areas. It is also common in urban areas.

Yes, you are absolutely right that it is also common in urban areas. But in case of big cities, on account of some rules and regulations of the municipal corporations and also protests from the educated sections of the society, the trend is on the decline. But in rural areas or semi-urban areas, there is none to protest or the administration is quite deaf and dumb towards this merciless cruelty to the animals.
