It doesn’t mean that I believe so much in folklores. But I have notice myself doing this ever since I was told about it by old folks. It was said that if you hear a house gecko/lizard makes its sound or chirps, you should knock on the wood and you will receive a letter or money. But I was not told how long you should wait to receive those stuff. All I know is that you will receive something. A while ago I heard a lizard makes this sound and my hands knocked on the wood on its own. It seems that my hands were programmed to do the knock every time I hear them chirp. I still cannot remember whether I have received something from doing those knock. Do you also knock when you hear them make such sound? Any folklores you still unconsciously do or believe?

Oh dear. I will surely get my hands knock out if i will knock on the woods every time i will hear the lizard's chirp. Why?Our house attracts many lizard and that makes us all wonder..Lizards everywhere and they all make sound during night time.. :-( But i believe in biting a pillow once whenever i dreamed of loosing my tooth. They say that will prevent an accident to occur in one of the members of the family..Better believe than hit by something.. :-D

We don´t have lizards where I live but there are all sorts of supersticions about knocking on wood and other things. We are supposed to receive money if we get hit on the elbow and we don´t say ouch!. Then there´s the thing about showing money to the new moon. I have tried both, but I guess my lack of faith is responsible for my not getting even a small coin

Another new superstition first time I've ever heard about the elbow thing. It resemble a lot with what we're suppose to do when the lizard chirps.. only thing is that your belief is the elbow and shouldn't say ouch showing money on the moon is so new to me too... I am not lucky too, even when my reflex is doing what's supposed to be done. Maybe I'm not expecting so much from it.

Hi enelym Lizard Chirp or a Dog wailing... there are many doing their work around with many. But yours seem to be a different one and Oh... I just heard one chirp... now where is the money or the letter... Gosh... now I read the next few lines and I have to wait... something that I cannot (Darn Impatient Siddi ) But do I have a choice... let me wait. Okay, I was always told about the wailing dogs. They bring bad luck. Not quite sure for whom but they did get me once. I met with an accident. Actually, I did post this entire response at Ms. Bingskee's Discussion here...http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2600696.aspx (Response at Box #4) And she thinks that it was a mere coincidence.... Maybe, but I am a believer of that.... the only one superstition / lore that I believe

Oh no... you should have ripped up the covers, cushions and whatever on the sofa to find if there was some wood....... ok, now that you have got this tip, keep your ears open... you might get to hear another one now (and this time do as the book says)

Yeah you have to wait for some days, weeks, or months... who knows when.. And just now I heard a loud gecko sound but no woods around where I'm sitting, my hands just knocked the sofa I remember that discussion - I believe about that wailing dogs, but not all the time. I usually switch my thoughts into something good to avoid the feeling of being scared.

This is just new to me :) What I know is that if a lizard makes a sound, then a visitor is to be expected, but it hasn't happened yet. Well, I know they're just some folklores and if they do happen they are more to be of coincidences. Thanks!

Hello neelia About the visitor coming, our belief on that is that when you accidentally dropped a fork on the floor, there will be a guy visitor who will come to your house. If it's a spoon, then expect a woman to come. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not... so I don't know whether it's coincidental or not Thanks also for your comment

Hi khare Oh no, not the innocent lizard dear I am also scared of the lizard if it fell on me but I never look at it like how I look at the cockroach. I will prefer having lizards in the house than roaches I am not sure also if that is true, but I have heard that from old people before. =)

?Hi, Enelym. I'v never heard or seen that action before. Anyway, a lot of my female friends always knock 3 times when they finish gossiping. Also, fringe the hand away from their body to prevent the bad thing they gossip will return to them.

Hello arrtit, Let me welcome you first in myLot! First time I've heard about it used in gossiping But I know about how it was often used when we talked about bad things and knock so it could prevent it from happening towards the person.

Hi enelym! I have heard of this old saying before but it has not been a tradition to us at home so I did not get used to knocking whenever I hear lizards make their sound. I do always knock three times on wood when I say something at the same time with someone and then say "money for us". I can't see any basis for this of where this saying came from but it has been a habit. I don't believe in it either and it has just became for fun to knock and even finding something wooden just to knock.

Hi secretbear, Yeah that's what they said we should do it. After knocking we have to say "Money or letter for us" It's really fun sometimes when I heard it and I'm with my good friends, we would try to be the first to knock and say those words. But I think I received nothing for doing that.

I live in a rural town, and I hear the sound of the geckos almost every night, but, I never heard that story, I guess it is only in the Philippines, I will try to remember it tonight, :). Either way, I think that this sort of histories, and folklore, are, either we believe in it or not, somehow, "carved" deep down in our subconscious mind, and we often respond to it. sometimes in funny ways.

Hello albto, Yeah this lore is only in some parts of the Philippines, I've realized upon posting it here that there were other beliefs about this too - in other towns or other countries That is true, it's either we have the faith to believe it or not, sometimes it can be a coincidence too if it happens

Hello enelym, I have heard something that there would be visitor or you will receive something when you hear the lizard chirps but I am not sure if I have to knock three times. I have totally forgot about that or maybe because I haven’t hear the lizard chirp for the longest time or I don’t mind them anymore. What I usually do, is when my palm is itching, I would put them inside my pocket. I think there’s a belief with that also, either you receive money or you will lose money. Not that I believe in it, I just like doing it, to be safe anyway it won’t hurt if I put my hands inside my pocket, just like knocking when you hear the lizard chirp.

Yeah it's not really weird doing these things when it's not gonna hurt us anyway For us the palm itching means you have to scratch it and maybe you will receive some money. I'm not sure about losing it. But now that I know it... maybe I'd have to try putting my hands inside the pocket too But, I don't always wear pants with pocket.

hello enelym, I don't knock on wood whenever I heard a gecko sound. It might be coincidence, but, whenever this house gecko made sounds, after a day or two I received a gift. Not to mention since I am receiving a monthly allotment- so it is given when the gecko made sounds. But,after receiving the money and I heard my pet gecko- for sure there is another surprise coming. Yah...my pet gecko made few sounds last night and then my mom called telling to check the package. She sent a package for holiday gifts and it surprises me since she never tells me in advance she will be sending us.

I have never knocked down the wall or wood when I hear the lizard chirp. No one told me to do that and after that you would get a gift. It's kind of similar to what I have often told when the lizard chirp or sounded in the middle of the conversation, it means that what we're talking was true. I didn't know if it was true relating to knocking down the wood when the lizard chirp, we would receive a stuff. I didn't see any relation between these case. I never realized how it would work on its own. Thank you

No I never heard of that.. quess some things are getting a habit too? If you say something "bad" might happen people over here say: knock 3 times on real wood so you will turn away the bad luck (so it won't happen). I did that in the past.. now I don't anymore but still someone if that situation shows up the thought of it to do so is popping up in my mind (but I can control myself now).

I guess these things becomes a habit if we have it on our mind. But as soon as we realized that it is not true, and nothing good nor bad will happen, we eventually learn not doing it and control ourselves off this habit or belief.
