Ricky Ponting sob stories continues as he is still searching for his elusive century for the last two years. He was 67 not-out on the second day of the test against New Zealand but on the third day, he was only able to add just another 11 runs before he was out. His dream of breaking Sachin records is slowly and surely going in air as he nows struggling to retain his place in Australia playing eleven

I would say that a batsman getting out on 78 is a sob story. But given the prolific batsman that Ponting has been over the last decade, his inability to score a century for quite some time is raising eye brows now. I do not think Ponting is going to break any of Sachin's records. At one time he did have a realistic chance, but that has gone by long time ago. Now Ponting is more trying to prolong his career. Cheers! Ram

Those who compare Sachin with Ponting should realize Sachin has led from front when Indian batting was not that strong and remain unfazed by weight of million expectations throughout his career. Now Ponting in twilight of his career fighting to save his career and playing for a team that is not invincible is finding the going really tough. As ponting wants to keep playing risking his reputation. Aussie selectors are willing to give him a long rope given his stature in the game. Double standards of Aussies like Greg Chappell is pretty evident now. He insists Ponting is a class act and should be allowed to continue with his career for as long as he wishes. The same Greg Chappell was forcing all Indian seniors, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly and the rest to retire in name of team rebuilding! Just shows how some people go to great lengths to weaken other teams but can be totally partial when it comes to their own countrymen. I think Ponting might be able to survive for a year or two but he is clearly struggling and it is hard to see him become a dominant force in world cricket again.

Comparing Sachin stature as a player with Ponting is indeed very pointless. But talking about records is different things. If Sachin is the most undisputed batsman of all times than Ponting is undisputed captain (in both form) of all times. Now, he is going a low phase of his career doesn't means that he can't come back.If he finds his form, he still a threat to Sachin's records. The big advantage with Ponting is his ever-lasting fitness. He is injury free cricketer.Sachin has too gone through this phase in his career.
