It's not easy to loss weight when you have a lot of temptations!

December 6, 2011 5:29am CST
I already have a higher than normal weight when I was in college. I thought that this was normal since I need not to focus on my diet while studying and it did not gave me an image problem so I didn't bother. Now that I am already a health care professional, I thought that this will be the best time for me to control my diet. I was assigned in a special area where we can be busy only when there is an operation and most of the time, we were just sitting and sort of being sedentary. We often have free meals each time we had operations since some doctors would provide us food and snacks. Since this freebies often occurs, I lost my motivation to control my diet. There were a lot of temptations and after our duty, we will be hanging out for some food trip and alike. I noticed that I have a bigger body frame than usual. I don't know what to do, I need some advice and motivations. Please help me out.

Don't worry about changing your Diet! I have a 6% body fat percentage (No not genetically, I worked my backside off to get here) and I still eat Fast food and junk food occasionally and dont workout more than half and hour a day! You need to do research into what is called "The Afterburn Workout"! It is all about burning calories AFTER you have finished working out and this period of time can range from anywhere between 20 and 48 hours after your workout in which your body is still burning off calories! I have been doing this for about 4 months now with great effect and it is simple, quick, efficient and can be done at home OR in a gym! Look it up ;)

OH and as for motivation, that is all a mind game YOU need to figure out on your own terms. I can tell you how to lose weight and why you should lose weight, but YOU decide when to do it.

Someone once said that the biggest obstacle to any weight loss regime is really the fact that food tastes good. And almost always the food that really isn't the best for you, it is the kind that tastes good. It would not be a such a horrid temptation if the food did not rather seem so good and there are going to be a lot of problems with any attempt to lose weight. Of course my big problem is a nutshell is this. When I don't try and make a conscious effort to lose weight, I actually am more likely to lose a bit more weight then if I actually tried. If I try and deprive myself of various things, then suddenly become so much more tempting. I have to attempt to lose weight without letting myself in on the fact that I am losing weight. Because that's when the wheels fall off the wagon.

Wow! I have so much if realizations after reading your comment! Well, It seems that if I are conscious and really driven to loss weight, I will be more attractive to food and definitely loss my motivation in watching my diet. But if I go on with the flow, I will just notice that something has change about my figure, losing weight! A good advice. I'll think of that as an option. Thanks!

unfortunately self control is all you can do, there is no magic pill if you are still going to eat more than you should,I have the same problem and I like the wrong food, I like take away food but it is all in self control.

So we are on the same situation. I hope we can have the self control you have mentioned. Losing weight has more benefits, not just having a good figure but also having a healthy body.

interesting ... It seems there is a challenge for each to "look within" and find that passion that , if you will, is going to burn a lot of calories ... Fondly ... What do you think ?

Yes, I definitely agree. That is why I am looking for some motivations everyday for me to be faithful in keeping my diet. Also keeping busy and doing my job well keeps me going and I think this consumes more calories from my body.

Welcome to Mylot Annrose. It is hard to loose weight if you are terribly busy... People gain weight when they are under stress. Oftentimes, people would catch up on work rather than go to gym to exercise. We all know our health will get back at us as we age but still we'd rather focus on our present jobs.

I too have a good example of getting more weight when under stress. When I was still studying for my board examination, I committed sedentary lifestyle. Sitting on the the chair of the lecture room whole day, eating and sleeping after was such a routine for me. It caused me to gain 3 kilos and it bothered me a lot because now, I have difficulty in getting my back my usual body weight.

I know most of the girls love to loss weight so that men will be more atttracted. But most of my reasons were my health, I am bothered of having some diseases caused by being fat.

Temptations is ok. Eat as pleasure. If you want meat, take a little of it. The rest will be vegetables all the way. "Treat your additional temptations as your enemies" is how I lose weight.

Be strong and don't give in, think about your body you will have if you don't give in and just eat all the nice healthy foods and the cravings will soon go and you won't want the junk food. The first few days are the hardest, but don't give up

Good luck Ann! I have a loooong history of dieting and controlling my weight, which is hard because I am short and LOVE food but I will gain quick if I overeat. For me the key was to find as many things I enjoy to eat that are healthy and low fat and eat them as much as possible. So instead of saying I can't have any treats, I just force myself to eat a lot of my favorite fruits, veggies, and whole grain foods as I can a day and then usually I am not hungry enough for too much "bad stuff" but I allow myself a small treat or two every day. I also try to find as many different kinds of exercise that I ENJOY and try to fit in one of each activity a week (currently I do walking, hula hoop/dance, and yoga). Good luck, try to have fun with it!

It is definitely not easy to lose weight when there are lots of temptations. The people around can also be a factor. They might mock when they know your watching your food intake and some may become 'over' supportive with it.

Hi! I hear you as I too, am a bit heavier than I would like to be. As we are in the middle of what I have come to call 'chocolate/baking season', it is hard to say no to all the tempting treats. Do limit yourself to perhaps one a day and make sure you know what is in there. Perhaps stay away from the desserts that are 500+ calories and have fruit instead. Seeing that your drs offer snacks, can you ask if they'll provide raisins or apples? Also, try power walking several times a week whether it be by yourself or perhaps with a good friend. Stand upright and pull in at the core. If you're in an area that doesn't permit much walking, see what excersizes are on tv (Leslie Sansone) or see if your facility has some suggestions. Do they offer any classes or is there something in your healthcare plan that encourages the local gym? The other thing I found to be motivating is to set realistic goals. Too many people want to reach the ideal weight and some do but others get discouraged and stop. So perhaps try dropping 10 pounds, see how you feel, and re-evaluate. Do give yourself the time to do so but believe me, it's worth it! Just some thoughts! Best of luck!

You should have discipline. I suggest that you make a picture in your head of the person you want to become and turn that image into your motivation. I'm kind of skinny and I want to be muscular that is why I'm planning to work out nonstop on Christmas break.

Yes it is very, very very difficult to lose weight when their are so many delicious food just waiting for you to take a bite on them. i suggest you change you're eating habits. i read somewhere that it is better to eat 5 times a day with minimal intake than 3 meals a day with heavier intake. so eat gradually not instantly, exercise regularly. check your weight often so that you will know if you are progressing or not. Just enjoy what your doing,(which is very difficult for me) Good luck in your quest on losing weight.

We're in the same boat dear. I mean, having a difficult time to lose weight. But hey! I'm now trying my best to control my diet, not just mere controlling but it's more of eating wisely. I love food! Especially pork, fatty foods, eggs and bread! That's why I'm a big woman. Some people often tells me I'm not fat or my body is just okay but the truth is, I'm not happy about my figure. I swear! And my 'fit' cousin told me that if you want to have that sexy or slim body, do it!work for it! Why? Because we just have one life to live. We're getting older and older everyday. When are we going to be fit? When we're old? That's boring... That's my motivation! I exercise eveyrday and eat healthy foods because I want to live longer, with a healthy and fit body! :)
