I'm not to sure on rating discussions. Does it count against me 2 rate negative?

I don't know if rating a discussion negative counts against me. Because not all MyLot members are peaches and cream. It is somewhat frightening to not know this. I need another opinion on the subject. Is there an example that one could give, that would be rated negative? Please give one if so. Because I can't tell sometimes what is a negative discussion or not.

The first point to realise is that, until you reach 100, you cannot rate others. You may think that you are rating activity but if, after you have rated, you refresh the page you will see the boxes reappear. This is so that you have time to understand how to rate before you are allowed to do so. Second point is that you should understand that the rating system is not a 'like' or 'dislike' system. MyLot explain how to rate here and you will see that there are 3 possibilites: 1 - to rate positive 2 - to rate negative in a few circumstances. 3 - not to rate at all. Please read here: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#1

EavesJ please take your time to read all of the FAQs that myLot provide as it will help with how you use myLot. For example, they explain that we should wait at least a week before awarding the BR so that everyone can have a chance to respond. Remember that not everyone logs on daily and some only log on at week-ends. Welcome to myLot!

To my knowledge mylot doesn't tell you who has rated you. No it doesn't count against you.

Mis-use of the rating system can seriously jeopardise your account, as stated in the FAQs.

Eaves listen to an old timer. do not I repeat do not hit minus just because you do not agree with another person here, mylot even says this in the guidelines. do read the guidelines and also the frequently asked questions and answers,A negative discussion would be one that insults and discredits other mylotters, or is inane and makes no sense. however it it is insulting I would much rather hit the report button than minus.yes if you do a lot of 'minusing mylot could come down on you as its not something to be used if y ou dislike someone or dislike the topic as those are not reasons to hit the minus.do go and read the guideline as they explain it much better than I can.use the minus rarely and the plus a lot. people who habitually hit the minus just because they dislike someone or some topic are known as trolls. as long as the topic and the discussion do not break mylot rules which you should read and learn do not minus it. if its insulting re port it with the ! mark.hope this helps. hugs from hatley

I don't think that I have rated a discussion either positive or negative in the entire time where I was at myLot. I'm sure that there are many discussions that would be bad. One line discussions or one line responses that add nothing to the topic for example. Or topics that are started that are asking something that is clearly stated in the guidelines. Of course, those topics are going to get deleted, so the point is rather moot. I don't think that I trust myself to judge negative quality in general. Quality in any statement is rather in the eye of the beholder. There are many times where it is too close to call and my mind is going to be rather clouded. Negative, bad quality, whatever, I don't find it right that I should decide and therefore I don't. I'm sure many people will happily make that decision but I got better things to do with my time.

EavesJ ..I have never seen a post that I thought should be rated negative. I think that is a very serious charge and there are consequences for the person who is negatively rated. Unless something very very nasty is posted, I would ignore it. It would be especially unfair to rate someone negatively if it were over mere disagreement in viewpoints..
