Early bird or Cool cat?

A brand new sensational product is being released. There is a lot of excitement built around it. Lets say the very latest phone or a vehicle or a TV or even a new movie or huge discount sale of items. There is mad rush with people flocking the place; something like the first day first show frenzy. To be the first or one among the firsts to see, buy or book it. Who would you be in such situations? An early bird who will not like to miss the excitement and the benefit? A casual relaxed and let-me-wait for others to evaluate it type? When you comment, you will naturally like to elaborate why you are this and not that type! It is a matter of personal preferences, though. Waiting to hear!

The ONLY time I've ever rushed to buy something on the day it was released was when the final book in a series came out. Roger Zelazny's Amber series - the tenth book, last in the second group of five. I made sure I was there on the day it was released and picked up a hardback first edition. Anything else, nah. Not worried - I'll wait until it's been around for a couple of months. The price should have dropped by then.

You would follow your passion Spike and when it is the bibliophile, I can only admire! But honestly, hat's the feeling, other than reinforcing your attachment to your passion, when you grab a first copy? Curious. I think too that the real price of an item is when its worth has been assessed in real use.

A hardback first edition is always worth more to a collector than, for example, a third reprint in paperback. But the reason I wanted to buy that one on the day it came out was because I'd read the first 9 books... and wanted to know how the darned series ended!!

Hi Pushhya To me, it depends on the product. I am not a gadget freak so they are the last on my list. Again costs to play dirty here, if something affordable and as per my interests - yes, I would be among the first ones - I never missed the First Day First Show when I was in College (and the tickets those days were too affordable - even when they sold it in Black - off-counter) I think in teens and early twenties you really dont care much and go ahead with your instincts... but as you start aging... you become more responsible, more organized and that does keep at least some of the shop frenzy at bay.... Jeezzzz I have grown old

Watches are out but those sun glasses are in, so are the bikes (the higher side speedy ones) kool dresses and apparel... maybe more.... I mentioned I ain't a teen anymore

lol. Grown old sids? If that were so, where am I? Some very interesting thoughts there. I know the college days' movie mania myself too. And it seems too cool to be true that the tickets were so affordable. Instincts versus age: good point. It gets me expect if there were more responses from teens here, what would we see?

I would be the cool cat. Its always better to buy a product after reading reviews of customers. the pros and cons of a product will help a customer choose the better product. buying offline is also better because the product can be directly seen before being bought and there will not be any damage during shipping either. I think people who want to spend a lot of money should wait before investing it blindly.

Isn't that the case sreekutty that some people really can afford [and not bother really about value for money]? That point regarding buying from a store than buying online seems valid. But in some situations or for select stuff, we may still find online a better option. What do you think?

Of course there are two types, the early bird and Cool cat, as you would say it. And I would be the Cool cat and wait to see what people are saying about it. I wouldn't be the early bird. Why? Is because if I was to rush up to wal mart and say, buy a brand new Playstation 3 the slim version when it came out, got it home and played it for a couple of days and the system crashed on me, then I would be out of luck. Turned out there was a bug or two in the new systems that causes them to crash.

Hi Eaves. How often have I read about people going gaga over a new iPhone or a gadget that both the Company launching as well as the guys who were part of news making multitude must have gloated over! Not sure who gained or who lost how much and whether they thought all that hoopla was worth any long term gain. Good for us, we are among the pragmatic & discerning buyers!!

Generally, I consider myself a cool cat. I don't go crazy going somewhere to just get hold first of those things or see new movies. Although there were times I have been an Early Bird, that is when I really wanted a movie. But it seldom happens that I'd go on this films on the very first day itself. It only happens when I got a premiere ticket and our sked allows us to go there on that day itself. But for other things, I would let other people go nuts over being an early bird. Normally if that's a gadget I would have to wait first to see reviews on the net.

Some people get special thrill of being there the first day first show all the time, don't they?! No offense to them, here.. I have rarely done that, even when I used to watch movies very regularly. As for products & gadgets, I agree, any buy must return its true worth. And the best way to make sure it does is to wait for full reviews. Cool.

I prefer to be the cool cat since I am one anyways. I'll wait for the reviews of the specific item or trend and then that is when I'll make my decision whether to try it or not. That kind of attitude certainly helped me from spending money on new things which aren't really that great. Of course, it'll also help you from feeling sorry for yourself if you felt that you just wasted money and your time for an item which didn't actually satisfy you.

Cool, you are the cool cat anyways drambits! Reading over reviews to get perspectives that help make a more prudent choice, as you do, I feel is quite a helpful way!
