With all the crap going on with the petition drive to recall Scott Walker, I'd like to commend the people of Sheboygan, WI. The recall drives that I've seen so far are all on sidewalks, out of the way of normal traffic, no "in your face" tactics or reprisals for not wanting to sign.
Good on ya Sheboygan!!

Peavey, the recall effort has been plagued with illegal activities such as petitioners encouraging people to sign petitions even if they admit they have signed one before, underage people, people from out of state. People who have declined have been verbally attacked, or had their cars egged. One mad has even been arrested for scribbling out the signatures on a petition.
Here in Sheboygan, I see signs at the Union hall, a few coffee houses frequented by liberals and there were people at Memorial Mall getting signatures. All are set up where the person has to approach them to sign, not be approached. The ones at the mall are out on the sidewalk, off of mall property.

Cool. I knew (kind of) that the recall effort wasn't above board - that's par for the course for these people, but I hadn't heard anything about Sheboygan so I thought maybe something else had happened there. I agree, then. Good on Sheboygan!
It's sad that any place or group that acts decently is worthy to be applauded because no one else does.

Thank you Annie. I am against the recall, but I'm even more against the terrible behavior that has plagued it.
When we saw the people on the sidewalk by the mall, my wife was afraid I would go over and mess with them, but I told her there's no reason to. Challenging someone who gets in my way or threatens or harasses me for not wanting to sign is one thing. Walking across a mall parking lot just to challenge them is being what I say I'm against.
Another interesting thing is, the first 2 weeks of the petition drive, the pro Recall side was trumpeting the numbers of signatures they were getting. But after the controversies about illegal signatures came out, and a website was set up for volunteers to help build a database for verifying legitimate signatures and identifying multiples, they announced that they weren't going to report on the numbers anymore. ;~D
