Under such difficult time, people might want to save some extra money in their pockets, and unwilling to spend. Especially we are going through Thanksgiving and it - will - be - Christmas in two weeks. If you don't want to max out your credit cards, or spend all of your savings, give a Christmas cards, or some home made stuff to your friends and family. I believe Christmas is for family get together, and not about buying expensive gifts and give them away to show off yourself. I would treasure much more on the relationship with my family and friends. If they don't have money to buy me gift, or they are getting through a difficult time right now, I would more appreciate if we just have a dinner together that will be for me.

I totally agree with you, this is a family holiday. The most important thing for me at Christmas, is to spend time with my family, the gifts are just for fun.You can not buy happiness with expensive gifts. There is just something magical about this holiday:)

It doesn't have to be expensive in buying gifts. Also, the essence of Christmas in not about buying. It is more a family get together and sharing love to each other. But through also giving gifts, we it is one way we can express our greetings and love to them.

YOu are so right. My sister and I are in charge of our big Christmas celebration this year and we decided our gifts would be our time with each other....Just being together and celebrating what is important is what Christmas is about!

I agree with you Christmas is about friends and family coming together. What I do because money is tight is I got my daughters Christmas pictures taken and send them out as gifts to people.

I don't want to sound like the grinch but I am ready for Christmas to be over with. I agree with you times are hard I'm trying to keep a roof over my head. My family is understanding, I'm not obligated to buy anything during Christmas. If I decide to buy something it's going to be a very tight budget. Then again I don't feel like celebrating Christmas. I may change my mind. New Year enthusiast!
