Young and restless the year that never was

Is it just me or is anyone else getting a real sense of deja-vu with the show. Lets compare stories from last year : - Victor in prison for a murder he did not commit - Adam fighting Nick to be head of Newman enterprises - Nick in relationship but all he thinks of is Sharon - Nick fighting Adam about getting involved with Sharon - Deacon manipulating Nikki into staying with him - Patty is back and the only one who knows is Adam - Billy and Victoria are together - but fight over Victor again Now they show a new scene with Jeffrey talking to a painted ball as he tries to make fire. I really feel that they put all the scripts they had in a vault and waited for all the actors to come back, and the past year has been a filler year, with a few stories but the real story the murder of Diane, it involves everyone and it is going to be like the old stories with everyone a suspect to the last.

That is what soaps have done for a very long time. This is because most soaps are built around a few powerful families and they have to create drama either between the families or within the families and there are only so many stories that can be done with that. Every so often an outsider will appear to come in but then they end up being part of one of the families. Many prime time show also have similar plots either repeating on one show or from one show to another.

It guess it is hard for them to come up with to many new storylines as they have limited characters for which they can only do so much (even in the soapy world!) My gross ovservation is always...they have everyone marry and divorce so many times, that everyone has been married to everyone in town! ANd the kids in town are all related..either same father or same mother! General Hospital is the worse on this one...half the kids on the show have the same father (Sonny) and different mothers -Kristina, Morgan, Dante, Michael are all Sonny's kids but have different mothers. Then ther is Elizabeth...3 kids, 3 different fathers So they have kind of written themselves into a corner on who can marry whom i the future! I mean, the kids now are all related so they can't have anything go on between them. But Ashley and Sharon and Phylis...they've been married to nearly every man in town not to mention they've all been married to the same ones! Okay, Ashley couldn't marry Jack as he is her brother, and supposedly Sharon isn't going to be marrying Victor, but still..you get the picture.

I mean they bring in Tucker to give some fresh blood to the show, and he is Katherine's son and Devon's father in one fell swoop relating two families.

That's funny. IT is true tho. ANd the think is....they will all end up just as they did last year! Victor will get off scott free. Niki will marry someone else (She did today - Deacon) Patty will do her reign of terror then go off into the sunset.Adam and Nick will fight and carry on and then Victor will come back and take things over. I hadn't put it together as you have, but you are right...same stories...different reasons. But in defense...they can only do so much with so many characters in one town. How many times can a town get blown up? How many murders can a town constantly have? how many "return from the deads" can they have? Well..they have them alot, but you get what I mean. They only have so many characters to do so many things...and athen they just have to repeat. I just wish they'd stop marrying everyone to everyone else! Do the math and nearly everyone has been married to everyone else but Michael and Lauren! Sharon and Phylis and Ashley have even been married to all the same ones at different times...except Ash can't marry Jack her brother nad Sharon hasnt (yet) married Victor..but hey... if Nick doesn't take her back and she doesn't go back to Adam and Niki now havinag married Deacon after Victor was taking the fall to protect her....maybe Victor and Sharon will commiserate and then get married!

I wouldn't put it past them Sharon married Nick and Adam, she wants a Newman trio. Well they will have another Victor Nikki reunion and wedding, third time is a charm. You just know something bad is going to happen to Deacon, I mean to mess with that family, when they find out that he manipulated Nikki, well I can imagine really bad things happening. I know what you mean with them redoing stories, but this is just too soon and too obvious, I mean it is nearly the same in every way. Even the fact that Avery is Phylis' sister, is similar as Sharon moved on with Nick's brother. The only character who is truly independent of the families is Emily and even she is involved because of Patty, Paul's sister, and the Abbots because of her engagement. I just realized something, the Chancelors and the Newmans are rarely linked, the only link is with Victoria and Billy who is an Abbot and Chancelor through Jill, does that mean that we could see Victor marrying Jill, the would freak so many people out it would be hilarious. Victor does seem to have a soft spot for Katherine, come on humour me the drama would be hilarious. Just a side note I have noticed that they are making Ricky into the over ambitious man with no scruples, a true villain, he is an Adam without the total insanity that is Adam.
