Now that my baby is going to have her 1st Christmas, I'd really like to start some traditions with her :) I don't want to set specific dates / times to the traditions b/c I know sometimes things will change and we won't be able to do the same thing at the same exact day. However, I'd like some ideas for general traditions that we can do during the holiday season. My first one is to visit a local holiday event they have at the museum here every season. They have it all month so we can go anytime and I am going to make it a point to bring my baby every year. What other suggestions do you have? What types of things do you do with your family every Christmas season?

The other thing that I would suggest is cooking some traditional food. You can also include some decorations in the house that reminds you of traditions.

What kind of traditional food? Or do you mean I could come up with something to cook every year? Well I don't host Christmas, so I might make a traditional meal another day of the week.

That is what I mean, it can be a special family dinner that you cook and make sure you do it every Christmas.

Thanks :) I will see what I come up with. I want a special day for just our little family of 3 for holidays and birthdays. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it will be nice to slow down and just be the 3 of us.

Your baby's first Christmas is one of the most amazing times that you will ever go through, so make sure that you enjoy every moment of it. I like Christmas, and we always do the same things each and every year. We always put the Christmas Tree up on the same day, and put the outside lights up on the same day each year. With children, it's nice to give them advent calendars to mark the beginning of December, and then make a big deal of doing things such as singing carols or writing letters to Father Christmas.

I love advent calendars. We don't have one yet but I planned to buy one when she's older, this year she'd just try to eat it lol. I saw a lot at the Christmas store so I just have to pick one.

we go to a few Christmas plays and ever since our daughters were younger (they are teens now), we have put up a Christmas tree advent calendar which has 24 little pockets in it. i write notes in the pockets and some of the notes say 'see mommy for a treat'. i buy candy and little things like lip gloss, stuff like that. of course the gifts have changed over the years but i told my 18 year old that she was too old for it but she demanded i do it for her and her younger sister.

We have a tradition, it is called the Elf of the Shelf. It is a story that we read every year to start off the holiday season. While my child is asleep we move the stuffed elf somewhere around the house so she goes and finds him in the morning. In the story, the elf goes every night to talk to santa. The elf can tell santa what you want for Chirstmas, or if you have been good or bad. It is something that my cousins always do and I found it to be fun.

Some great Christmas traditions are family has experienced are going out in the woods and chopping down our very own Christmas tree and trimming it together. Drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn while playing some of our favorite Christmas songs. Other traditions include making ginger bread houses, and making our own Christmas decorations. When the kids were really little we use to take them for "Breakfast with Santa" which was usually a breakfast of pancakes. If your kids are older and home for the holidays, you could have a Christmas Brunch. Watching the Christmas Play at your choice of church is always a good one too.
