India

Now everyone has the mobile but most of the people has land line connections also and they not want to cut it. Because mobile may lost any time but land line never lost may be damaged for sometime but after words telephone company repair it. I have seen still most of the people using land line phone because old age persons trust only on land line phone. Due to mobile most of the persons are dying but still I not heard a single person is died due to land line. What you think really lots of mobile company cannot replace the land line phone.

My husband & I got rid of our land line phone a few years ago. We saw no need to pay for both cell phones & a land line phone. Just didn't make sense & the truth is we couldn't afford to keep both. We don't need the land line phone for our internet because we get internet through our cable company so we just got rid of our land line phone altogether.

We have the same situation. When I saw how convenient it is to have a cellphone, I procured one for each of the family members plus one for home use. That will be a total of five cellphones. It took me more than a year before I decided to finally get rid of my landline. Now, I never see the need for a landline at all. The convenience that a cellphone provides can never be outperformed by a landline.

Hi Fanta! Very Good Post! You see land phone can not be compared with mobile phones. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and in a way both have become necessary in present day life. It is true that no harm is generally made by users of land phones as compared to mobile phones. It has been stated in various research reports that invisible rays of mobile phone could harm our brain, heart and skin etc. We could take our mobile phone anywhere and could talk to anyone, however, we can not take our fixed land phone to other places. It is also true that mobility of cell phone could result in its loss or theft. What would you do - would you stick to your land phone or will carry a mobile phone or you want both? (I have both and I would like to retain both .... Lol!)

Fanta, i have both mobile and land line in my home. But, most of the time, i prefer to use land line to call and receive call. Because the coverage is much better and the rate is cheaper. I only use mobile when going outdoor. Because i can't bring my telephone with me when i go traveling. I even use my land line connection recently since it is much better than broadband. So, my land line is very useful to me as for daily use and even for my internet connection as well.

I definitely agree that land line phone will not be obsolete. Yeah, we may say that mobile phones are really amazing this days, almost every year they upgrade their models. But the problem with this mobile phones sometimes lost connectivity, have no signals but I think it can be corrected soon. The next problem is the traffic due to the numbers to be transmitted. While the land line connection will only have a problem if the lines were cut. It's also convenient for business owners.

I think too with land line connection call charges are less if I'm right. But mobile phone companies have promos that can compete with land line connection and if considered subscribers can really save. Well, I guess both have pros and cons but, anyway I will still keep my land line connection.

I somewhat agree with you. The single strength and reliability that land line phones have doesn't come even close to those of mobile phones. we have 2 land line phones and 4 mobile phones in out house. 1 is a cordless one and the other is connected to the internet. We almost get all our calls on our land line and we use mobile only for outgoing.

Yes mobile is good for outgoing and lane line is good for home users. Wonderboy I am not asking which you love most.

It is damn sure that mobile phones cannot be replaced by land line phones. It has many disadvantages. I think you people know that what are that but still I am just mentioning them. 1)Mobile phones makes us entertainer The most modern mobiles provides us the specifications of hearing music and the browsing the whole world from our five fingered eye. This is the main advantage of a new phone and this is the reason why I love phone 2)Very cheap Most of the telecom operators provide us a lot of offers on phone calls and as well as on other matters. This helps us to have communication with less price. 3) Texting facility Mobiles phones helps us to text messages with others within a small time. This helps the people to transfer communication in the text form, where the land line phones can't 4) radiations communication method Mobiles phones communicates in from of from tower to tower. This helps the mobile users no the use of wires to connect phones (except code less phones) 5) The rate of error The rate of errors are much larger in land line connections due to whether conditions ,the days mainly rains days. The water drop gets inside the wires and make unclear communication. I think the mobile phones have the most of the advantages. So I love it and I use it. What about you guys ?

The only reason I need a Landline is because the Government offices are okay with the Bills from BSNL. Otherwise, I am not that ole to believe and trust landlines... I had asked them for a transfer in Aug 2011 and it is already 2011 Dec, but they havent got me a Landline at the new place... That sucks but that is what Indian Government is known for Dont know when I will have that Landline active at my place

Yours is one of the best discussions. My grand father(old man) do not use mobile phone. Also he do not like to phone in a mobile. I also not found it good, because it is not clear in sound and also I cannot press the numbers so easily, but I am using it as it is now-a-days "necessity"

Thanks to tell this nice words but yes yet lots of parents or others trust on only lane line.

hi, those were the times of land line and you could find a STD/ ISD /Call booths in every nook and corner of our streets. The net cafes, mobile repairing shops & branded mobile showrooms can be easy to find and these have replaced our calling booths. Regarding usage of mobile by parents, my mother is reachable on cell at my home but at the same time I have been convincing my Mother in Law to go for mobile, but she doesn't want to change the land line. So it depend on person to person how they want to receive/ make calls, they have many options of 3g, 4g and OK g?

Hi there fantabulus I think it all depend on the users. If the user is someone who stays at one place then it is better to use the land line phone, but if the user is someone who works outside of buildings then of course they need cellphone. Land line phone could be better than cellphone for it voice receiver is better, but lose to cellphone because land line phone could not be taken with us if we want to go somewhere. As for me, i prefer cellphone because of the reason i mentioned above. Actually my parents dont want to cut our land line phone too, but because of the tariff we must pay for both cellphone and land line phone they choose to cut it. Well i think everyone have their own opinion and reason about that. ^_^

You are right depends upon person but even person are doing job he are using mobile but in his/her house land line also have. Yes most of parents are not ready to cut the lane line connection.

Hi fanrabulus, I can not agree with you on that statement because I know so many households without a landline..Simply becasue they found no need to have one..I have both a landline and a cell phone. I keep my landline because its a part of my internet package but I have most of my connversations on my landline..because I only use my cell phone for short conversation or emergencies. However I have a noncontract phone and didn't want that monthly bill. Weather or not cell phones will replace a landline IO don't know but I do know that a cell phone is much more convenient than a landline. except when there is an interuption in the cell phone towers, which so far has not been a big issue in my area. cell phone have a lot more to offer than a landline.. personally I think its an individual preference.

I think that mobile phones are way more practical than land line phones, it's out of the question. Imagine just if you saw a car accident somewhere on the road and you couldn't call an ambulance because you don't have a mobile phone, or something like that. It's very important and useful to have a mobile phone these days. You can be accessed all day wherever you go and if there's something important somebody has to say to you, they can very easily contact you. So my opinion is that mobile phones are way better than land-line phones.. Actually, I use land-line phone only when I'm out of cash on my mobile phone.

People who run businesses, specifically who hold offices, can never work without a business landline phone, so it appears. However, for personal uses, the landline phone is not that necessary. I have long got rid of my landline phone the moment that I got to be convinced that having a mobile is indeed very convenient. I might have lost my mobile to some robbers before but, it is so easy to have another one anyway. A mobile phone works best for me because, my children can always contact me anytime whereever i might be.

You are right for business man mobile phone is best but for house hold person land line is best. Our parents not know how can run the mobile but they can easily handle land line phone.

I agree with what you have said 100%. I have both a land line and mobile phone. I use my mobile only for backup and emergencies. I still prefer a land line to talk to people. There are still problems trying to hear people and be heard on a mobile phone. They can not replace the land line for quality and clarity of sound. Yet more and more people are getting rid of their home phones and only relying on a mobile. I think it is a big mistake. Mobiles are often lost, misplaced, stolen or sometimes things go wrong. They do not work right. My land line is not perfect and things also go wrong with my landline but it sounds so much better when I speak to someone especially if that person also has a landline.

My sisters and brothers dont have land line connections at home. They usually use mobile phone and one of my sister even have two mobile phones + numbers, one for work and one for family. I am not sure if it is ok for me but to my family, they are perfectly satisfied with the mobile phone service they are enjoying. To me I sometimes find it very inconvenient to contact them as the coverage of mobile network is not perfect and when they are in the rural area or basement, they are just like isolating themselves from the rest of the world. I always worry about them as if they face any kind of accident at home, they may not be able to call me or the police for help because of the connection problem of mobile service. But if you think on the economical aspects, using only mobile service could really help saving money. I am not quite familiar with the mobile plans of your country, but in the city I am living in, the mobile service providers always have good offers. If you are willing to pay around 5US dollars per month, you can enjoy 1200 minutes of "chatting time" (how do you guys call this in English? I don't know) and free text messages. Compared with mobile plans, we have to pay more than 15 US dollars to get land line connections. It is just too expensive and so many young couples in my city have started to give up land line connections in recent years.

i agree, specially maintaining a business, you have your cell phone for personal use and a landline in your office so that you don't get bothered during you free time and only get calls from the office from your secretary. You can also use the landline in contacting other people who prefer to talk through landline rather than through the phone :) hehehe I'm just saying; Have a nice day :)
