Assured Wireless or Consumer Cellular???

I am with AT&T currently. I have a senior citizen plan which costs me just over $40 a month. I use it very infrequently but when I need it, I need it. I read of two companies that offer low cost phones and plans. One is Consumer Cellular which is the exclusive provider for AARP members. Plans start as low as $10 a month. The other is Assured Wireless which a lower income person or someone receiving any social services can get free with a certain amount of free minutes every month. However, I think anyone can get a phone and plan with either company. I do not think that you have to be old or lower income. Has anyone had any experience with either company? Or known anyone who has? How are the phones? the service? the plans?
