Now I swear I've heard this happening before or unless it's only been in tv/movies. But a cat is now a multi millionaire in Italy. That's one lucky homeless cat I tell ya! I wonder how all of the affairs will be handled and what is to be come of the fortune once the cat passes? http://gothamist.com/2011/12/10/fat_cat_italian_cat_inherits_13385.php

Wow that's crazy, but your right I have heard of this happening before. It was more then a number of years ago. I was still living in NY at the time & this woman left all of her money to a dog. I forget now just how much it was that she left the dog, but it was enough for this dog to be living the high life for quite a while LOL

I can picture a dog really living it up a bit more than a cat would on a very large sum of money.

I think homeless to wealthy is quite a change up for any one animal or person.

I do think that is very strange since there are so many different avenues that could use the money to benefit so many. I imagine there are instructions for when the cat passes.....or it will be left to the lawyers...they usually find a way to get their hands on it!

I would hope she left instructions on what to do with the funds when the cat passes away. I'm sure a lawyer can find their ways to getting their paws on it. I know we had some money that was unclaimed from my one Aunt, guess what that unclaimed money went to her. Every time you'd send her an e-mail to see the status of things it was $30 WTF?!?!? Same with a 5min phone call.... really I want that kind of racket every time a solicitor calls... YOU OWE ME $ for listening to your pitch.

hi 3snugglebunnies wow thirteen million thats a lot of moolah for one cat and his mistress. I imagine the mistress who inherited the cat and its millions will have someone appointed to live it to when she goes on to heaven . thats really one lucky cat indeed. I hope the mistress is good to the wealthy cat. lol.

The only question is how many millions can one spend rightfully on cat food and cat litter?

Just heard the news on television about that lucky cat. How do you think he's going to spend all that money when he does not even have any inkling on what that inheritance is about? While this is a personal decision of the owner, I would have suggested that she give the money to people who are in dire need of help. If we look around us, we see people who are homeless and deprived of the basic human needs. The money would also have gone a long way by providing scholarship grants to deserving students who out of poverty cannot go to school. However, it is her money and she can do whatever pleases her. This is one crazy world we are living in right now and sometimes the real world is even stranger than fiction.

You make very valid points that the money would be better deserved by an organization that would benefit the community or even an animal shelter as her cat was actually homeless. Sadly it's not our choosing and there's only so much cat food and kitty litter a cat can use in it's life wouldn't not even make a dent in the inheritance.

This is where I read about this story... http://www.wyff4.com/irresistible/29977809/detail.html I agree that the money could have been put to more sensible use!!! Just think about it though, the lady was 94 years old & had no children. Her husband had passed before her. ALL she had in the world was her cat & the nurse who had befriended her years before. She had offered numerous shelters the money if they would take care of her cat in the way she wanted & they all turned her down. Neither article says what it was she wanted done that was so difficult to do that made $13 million not worth it. Before she became ill, she went to the park & only one person...the nurse... even took the time to get to know her or spend any time with her. The nurse was her friend before she even needed a nurse to help her. The nurse would even bring her cat over for a play-date so her cat wouldn't be lonesome. When she expressed her fears that her cat wouldn't be taken care of, the nurse volunteered to help take care of him...supposedly not knowing there was a fortune awaiting. So, at 94 when she was old, frail, her health is failing, & she's very lonesome; the only 2 living, breathing friends that she has are her cat & the nurse who promised her that her cat would be well taken care of. I can't say I blame her as I'd would have probably taken care of the only 2 things that had cared for me when I needed it!!! Sometimes people become disillusioned with others simply because they are given no reason to feel otherwise!!! Even though technically she did leave the money to the cat. I also see it as she was making sure that the only real friend she had...the nurse... was also well taken care of after she was gone!!! The caveat...the nurse HAD to take care of the cat to reap the benefits!!!

This just shows how disillusioned some people have become with their fellow human beings. Sometimes pets are better friends than people. I also have a pet cat who just stays around me most of the time. Once when I was crying he seemed to understand.

What is up with that, I've been a good friend and a good family member throughout my life and yet I've never had the opportunity to inherit more than a thousand dollars and here is a cat that doesn't really have any abilities beyond being a companion and catching mice and now he is more wealthy than I will ever be. This isn't the first case where an animal has inherited a fortune, however because Leona Helmsly's dog inherited most of her money after she passed away.

Yeah, I never saw it but I read about it on the net. I was surprised to read the news. This is interesting. Nowadays, people like making surprise. I keep asking why she inherited her money to a cat, perhaps she got answer which we didn't know.

Sadly I've heard of such things before. Perhaps the cat was the most loyal friend and or family member she ever had and figured why not?
