Stomach Surgery To Lose Weight

I occasionally attend a house of worship. Recently one of the female clergy had stomach surgery to lose weight, She went "on vacation" for about a month and when she came back, she was 100 or so pounds lighter. Another female member of the congregation did this a year or so ago. She went away for a month or so and when she came back, she was also a great deal lighter.
I have no idea of what kind of surgery they had. I assume liposuction. I was never given any details nor did I know they were undergoing any surgery.
I only realized what had been done when I saw them and their new body. It was really shocking at first. I immediately thought "cancer" until I realized that they were healthy. I asked about one of the woman and was told that she did not have cancer, that she had had stomach surgery.
I have now gotten used to their new look but I am not certain how I feel about it. They are thinner. Their bodies look better but not their faces. They were heavy before the surgery, even fat, but their faces were fuller. Now that they have lost all this weight, their faces are not as healthy or pretty. The faces look gaunt.
Have you ever known anyone to have this surgery? If so, how do they look?

My best friend was severely obese and experiencing many health issues as a result of it. She had a special surgery done to her stomach and lost a ton of weight very rapidly. She continued to lose weight until she plateaued and has kept the weight off for the last 8 years. I think she looks great. Her health has dramatically improved, along with her self esteem. The only drawback I see is that she has loose folds of skin on certain areas of her body. I think its a wonderful thing for those who are in desperate need of it. As far as hush hush goes... women and weight has always been a touchy thing. There were those who supported my friend and many who did not. She wound up only sharing with those whom she trusted.

That is so sad. To make a choice for surgery, to have a better life, health and appearance, and to die in the process. I guess there is always a risk involving any type of surgery. Some surgeries are necessary to preserve life. Seems such a shame for someone to lose their life over a surgery that was not mandatory.

I think you are assuming lipo does alot more than it does. It can only remove some weight. There are lap bands, bariatric surgery, and the alike that shink ones stomach so one eats less. 100lb loss in a month is highly unlikely, even with surgery one still has to work out. I think 100lb loss would take atleast a year to obtain.

Well, both females lost a huge amount of weight in a very short period of time. They are not sick. It had something to do with stomach surgery. The female clergy woman was gone about a month. I had not seen her in maybe two months. And she had gone from maybe a size 14 or 16 to size 7 or 9. I did not recognize her at first.
The other female I possibly had not seen in several months but it was way less than a year. She had been very heavy and was now skinny.
I have no idea what they did. It was awkward to ask questions. And I was offered no information. Strangely enough, it seemed very hush-hush. I do not know why.

Several of the nurses that I worked with at the hospital had gastric bypass surgery. Most of them had had it done before I knew them so I wouldn't be able to compare the before and after for them. However, one of them had it done just after I quit working there and I saw her a little bit over a year ago and I could tell that is what she'd had done. Honestly, though her body looked a lot better, she didn't look good in the face at all.

I saw the same results at my congregation. Of course the bodies look better but not necessarily the faces. When the females had all the extra weight, the faces were full. But after having the surgery, the weight loss made the faces look very long and haggard. The faces looked gaunt and grey most especially the face of the congregant. But she is in her 50's so maybe she just has the face of a person in her 50's. And it was not as obvious when she was heavy.

I don't know anybody that had have that surgery, but the people in TV do that and look so different when they do that, but I have a cousin who did that surgery I haven't see her, but my family say that she looks so different now,and better of course.
In my case I really would like to have that kind of surgery because I would like to loose 30 pounds, but my problem is that I don't like to eat,and I don't do exercises,so my body don't burn calories.
So I don't know what is good for me but I really would like to find the way to loose some pounds.

I do not believe that they would do the surgery just because someone is 30 pounds overweight. I believe that you have to be obese for the surgery. This is not simple surgery. It is very complicated and not just for overweight people.
The people I know who have had the surgery maybe look better when it comes to their bodies but they do not look as good in their faces.
I am not certain that they look better as far as their bodies. The change comes as such a shock that I don't know what to think. I find myself staring at them and I have to make myself stop. But I have also noticed other persons "watching" them. I think that such rapid weight loss is not healthy.
Maybe you can talk to a doctor about losing weight. See what your doctor suggests.
