My dog and his kitten

I have German Shepperd aged 6years. Brought him as a puppy and has taken good care of him ever since. I normally let him loose once I close the main gate. He is well behaved and very good with the children. Just couple of days ago he came home with a kitten (may be 2-3 months old and I have no idea how he got hold of her). Took it straight to his cage and kept her inside. Trouble started there. Now a days he dosent allow any of us to go near the cage nor does let the kitten out of the cage. If the kitten gets out the cage he will pounce on her and put her back in the cage. He never bits her or mistreats the kitten in any way, when we feed him he makes sure the kitten gets her stomach full of milk before him and anything we give him he gives it to the kitten first before indulging in. Its now somehow seems that his world is devoted only to the kitten. Not me, the house or the children. What do you make of it. Please do respond, your suggestions and guidance much appreciated. Thanks

Does your dog has some cat friend? Or has he been around with other cats? I don't know what to think on this. Maybe he feel sorry about the kitten that nobody take care of the kitten. Are you sure your dog doesn't eat cat?

Never it was a real Cat & Dog issue before he found the kitten. lol, I am sure he is not going to eat her, looks moreover like he has adopted her as his daughter(very very extremely protective)
