When you seem to ran out of ideas, what do you do to have something to write?

There are times that I get ideas on things that I would want to write and do. My fault though is that I don't always have a small notebook with me to keep down or jot down those ideas. And when I get to sit down in front of my computer, I try to remember what are those things. However, I don't remember all. I learned that some, what they do is read articles online and then they write using its ideas and changing the words. That doesn't feel good for me because as a writer, I believe I need to have some real unique ideas to write about. How about you? What do you do to get good ideas for topics?

I'm not a writer but a writer wannabe. I do have a lots of ideas that has been lingering into my mind but I end up to forget those ideas. If you feel that ran out of ideas, try to look into your surroundings, into your environment, or also on the internet.

Hi craziestqueenever. I do the same when I would like to remember some ideas that I have. And when I do it, I make sure that I have a pen and notebook with me. Thanks for participating in this discussion.

I have a note pad on my IPhone so when an idea comes to me I will just type it down on there. Then other times I will read the news online. There is always something going on in the world worth talking about & about how it effects us.

Hi Robswife2006. That's a good idea too. I always bring my celfone with me and uses it to keep some notes. However, whenever I itch to write something, a conventional notebook is still better and handy. Have a nice day!!!

Hi Snowhybiscuits, I think it is more common to read articles, and then wait for a particular phrase or word to trigger your writing idea. Sometimes the way a person writes about something can lead to such thoughts in us. A certain sentence may lead us to think about something else, and we have one idea leading to another. In the end, we may have enough ideas for a few articles. These will be totally unrelated to the original article.

Writing articles for me is quite easy. Maybe, if I combine all the articles I have written, I would be able to come out with a book. I just need to focus on same line or fields of interest. Thanks.

I just try to read, read, read until I stumble upon something new. Also, I try to be observant even with very little details, I try to taken in details and tell myself that I am going to share the idea with fellow Mylotters, but I always forget about it.

Hi Cutie18f. If you set aside an idea, you better write it down because later on, you might forget it. I also experienced the same and as a result, I had lots of good ideas that I forget. Have a nice day!!!

Hi showhybiscuis, Nowadays most people carry a smartphone wherever they go even to the toilet. It may not be as convenient as a notebook but it sure beats trying to commit your ideas to memory. Often you will find that you cannot remember anything at all. Regarding writing I think it's quite normal from time to time to have a blank mind when one begins to write. The thing is one should not force it if it happens. It just won't work. What I would do is to get up and do something else like going for a short walk etc. Another thing is that one must remain alert and refreshed before one starts to write. So it's important to have sufficient rest. Reading other's work for inspiration and idea may not be such a bad idea. As long as one does not copy I think it's OK. Just write it in your own words. Who knows you may be able to express it better. That's my take.

Hi succeednow. That sounded good. I noticed that too. Whenever I am relax, I get better ideas and I write faster too. It is like churning the ideas in my head. I need to focus as well and devout my time to working on the idea that I have at the moment. I bought a program on how to earn online and sometimes, when I read it from time to time, I get fresher ideas. It's a good thing to have tools to help you. Whenever I have mind blocks, I also stop. Then I watch tv. But watching tv is not a good idea. Because I end up finishing the program and lost my focus. Thanks for the inputs. Have a great day!!!

I love reading but I also like to write. I am writing a dream novel of mine on and of. I also add details when I am inspired or see something interesting. One writing practice that you can do to is to write five words, nouns adjectives... whatever. After having your five words, you have to write a story, 10 sentences using the five words as a topic. I think it is pretty fun. If all else fails, writing about your goals is good. Love and hate topics are also great.

Wow! That is exciting. You at least started writing. I have been thinking over what I would want to write about. I am thinking of writing a book about what I know. But thinking about it, I feel that it would not be as fun as writing a novel or a story with heroes and villains. Thanks for the advice. It can be a good practice. I like reading the dictionary and sometimes I get new words. Have a nice day.
