Im in the process of upgrading my computer for my music projects and for playing games. I already have a good sound card, but I still need a new graphics card. What would be the best graphics card for a dell desktop computer with a Pentium 4 HT proccesor, 2 gigs of RAM, runing windows XP?

One of the factors is if the newer graphics cards are able to function in your motherboard. You will need to find out if your motherboard is AGP, PCI or PCI-E. - Colin

The factor is not based on what type of processor, gigs of ram or windows. The main factor you have to consider when you want to upgrade your video card would be your motherboard model. Some older motherboard cannot fit with new graphic card. By the way, you didn't mention your current video card. I would suggest you to bring your CPU to a trusted computer outlet. Ask them to check what model your motherboard is and ask what graphic card they may have for you. Since your desktop has a Pentium 4 processor, I am worried because you may have an older model of motherboard. About four years ago I had a desktop in my house with Pentium D which is released after Pentium 4, I bought a Nvidia FX5800 graphics by then and couldn't match my motherboard video card slot. As I bring my CPU to computer outlet, they say that my motherboard is an old version which cannot use new video card. Good luck to you
