Do you prefer to drive your car or commute?

This Christmas season I find it hard driving around with the heavy traffic. I live 2hour drive from the city and most of the roads are under construction plus the fact that its rainy so road is muddy. I prefer to commute, its the most practical way for me to save money and effort... It's also stress free looking for parking areas, all I have to do is ride a cab, jeepney or bus to take me where I wanna go. So to my fellow mylotters would you rather drive or commute?

I drive myself to work and back. I use my scooter instead of a car as I am concerned with the carbon foot print I leave behind. I could commute, but changing two buses on the way, can be a schedule killer. As for cabs, they are way too expensive to justify anything by the way of comfort, on a daily basis.

When I'm in our town Its most practical that I drive motorbike (which I borrow from my brother in law). It's also easier to get around the city. Just remember to wear your helmet. Always remember: Safety first.

First I don't know how to drive, second I don't have a car and third I love to sleep during trip on the way in the office in the morning so I always commute. We do have car service so I don't have a hard time in commuting but there are instances also that it is too hard to commute due to crowded people in the terminal,no taxi or cab to get, long line in the terminal and other some funny and irritating experience during commuting and maybe even driving your own car.

Well, me too I love to sleep while travelling; that is, if I'm not the driver. Experiences differ and it all depends on how we view things.

well you certainly present a heavy case for commuting and if everything were that bad,I might consider it too. But I would much much rather drive my own car. I can come and leave whenever I want, go where I want. You cna stay as long as you want if you take a cab, but then you when you are ready you have to either call one, or stop one on the street. It can become stressful, but give me my own ride any day.

Well due to the conditions,my driving to and from the city is just stressful on my part already and it affects my mood. Yeah, you're right sometimes taking a cab can be stressful too, esp. when it rains.

Around here, commuting would be nice, if that was possible. Our public transportation system was already atrocious (and that is putting is nicely since I can't use profanity here), but now thanks to cut backs, rapid urban sprawl, and political bickering, it has gotten worse. It is not possible to commute here and maintain employment. I know because this is how I lost my job dealing with this system. Here is the irony of all of this: When I was working, I barely made enough money to cover the bills, let alone saving enough buy a car. I received money for back pay and went out and bought a car so I can get around this city. However, as much as I appreciate having this car (and I really do appreciate it), I still have a heavy heart for those who continue to suffer dealing with public transit.

Thank you for your response, You just describe for me the worst traffic and poor public transport, and I thought ours here is worst. I often thought its just a matter of getting used to and Its not specially when all of it is affecting our jobs. Its good that you have your car to drive around and not suffer dealing with public transit anymore. :)

Having a family of 5, my kids ages 10, 4 and 2... it's practical and comfortable to use the car if we will go out. But if I will just be alone to go somewhere, I rather commute. My husband don't use the car everyday, not unless they will go out after office for socials. They have shuttle service nearby and it's quite practical too and comportable if he will prefer to ride in their shuttle service. It really depends, right?! As long as we are comfortable to what we think may favor us in anyway it should be... be it! Happy MyLotting!

I agree it really depends. We can always choose in ways that we can be practical and feel comfortable at the same time. Thanks and happy Christmas to you.

I agree that traffic becomes harder every day. That's why I prefer to use public transportation when I go to work. I only used the car on the weekend with my family. Also my kids go to school with their bike. Go green is great.

I agree with you.It adds up to the traffic if you drive a car this season Also its a practical way this holiday season to commute because the money you can save to the gasoline , you can use it to buy gifts to your loved ones and to add up for your grocery to be used in your noche buena. In that way you not only save money but you also contribute less air pollution to the environment.

To commute is more practical when you just want to stroll and visit some places for a relaxation and any other activity. it's true that it is a lot economical and less stressful. You can even sleep while traveling if you go to far places. But if you have some luggage to bring and you need to stay up late, it is better to drive your own car. Because it will be expensive to hire a taxi for 24 hours but that can still depend on your transaction with the driver. To drive or to commute is a matter of choice for each one to make depending on what purpose.
