Do you consider the cross as the symbol of Jesus Christ?

Hello mylotters, I have this feeling and thought that it is not appropriate for Christians to adopt the cross as a symbol of the Source of humanity's redemption for the following reasons: 1. If you were in the shoes of God the Father, you would not want to be reminded of how your Son suffered and died in the hands of blasphemers, idolaters and evil men, would you? By adopting the cross as Jesus Christ's symbol, I feel that we are offending Him more by reminding Him always of such barbaric experience His Son had. 2. I think that the lamb is more appropriate symbolism of Christ because it represents Christ's willingness to die for us. The Passover lamb also parallels the effect of Christ's death. Just as the blood of the lamb was used to cleanse the sins of the Israelites then, we were also cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. 3. Long use of the cross as a symbol of Christ subconsciously implies triumph of sin and death over Him because we are always reminded of the crucified Christ incarnate. However, as you all will agree such is not the case. He died but came to life again, showing us the existence of resurrection and came back to the Father from where He has come in the beginning. Do you agree with me on this, mylotters?

Wow what a nice topic.I`m sure you are right and Jesus never wanted us to use the cross.I think all the churches should get rid of the crosses and put a lamb on top of the church .Or a fish The cross was the sign the early christians adopted as the first symbol of faith.Later the Creed was created but the first Christians used the cross to identify themselves. Jesus told us "And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me" and " Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.". He didn`t said anything about taking your lamb or your fish Then you have Paul who said " For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ " So yes let`s get rid of the cross and let`s use a lamb instead.Or a fish.

Sarcasm! Sarcasm! Thank you, iuliuxd. The verses you cited made my conviction stronger of the cross being not the proper symbol of His person. Jesus' cross and the personal cross He wants Christians to bear do not represent the person but rather the respective sufferings and tribulations that we shall have. And that answers why He did not say "about taking your lamb or your fish". The fish could never symbolize Christ as it has no Biblical reference to be His symbol.

Good luck with that Jer . Go find a lamb and put it on the top of your church.

Iuliuxd, I am definitely proud to tell you that our Church does not use any graven images as religious paraphernalia. We believe that the Gospel written in the Bible is the only thing we can trust and rely upon. Not a tangible piece of wood, metal, plastic or stone.

Gabriel, consult the catholic encyclopedia, even your elder priests admit that the birth of Christ is unknown. You have been deceived from the very beginning since you were born.

I wish gabriel can still read your expose and try to reflect his beliefs as his priests taught him.

I'm not sure why it is adopted as symbol of Christ either nothing against Christ, it's just that the cross was actually symbol of a deity in the ancient sumerian and babylonian it didn't start out a simple cross, but then evolved to it over the period

Thank you for the comment. It sounds that the cross is also an adaptation of pagan origin.

This "barbaric esperience" was PLANNED thousands of years before it actually happened. Both Father and Son always knew exactly how it was going to be. Jesus submitted to it because it was what the Father wanted.

Yes, whatrow, but if you were the Father, even if you knew that what happened to your Son had to transpire, would you not be offended when Your creations who were supposed to have been saved by Your Son continue to remind You of such incident?

Maybe, you belong to a sect that does not recognize Jesus.

Sabado, we recognize Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Father. Unlike other religions, this faith in Him is deeply founded on Biblical truths enshrined in the Bible. Nothing more, nothing less.
