Most netbook has intel atom processor which very slow but by getting a notebook which has intel core 2 is a good buy! I've seen many netbooks from friends and my goodness, never I get that!

Intel Atom has had many improvements since it first got released, so I guess it all depends on the age of the netbook we're talking about.

Modern netbooks have processors capable of serving most people's needs, like surfing the internet, at comparably good speeds. It's the other uses that a netbook might not be able to accomplish very well.

I suggest you buy a laptop. Most laptops have better performing processors than netbooks. Netbooks also have smaller screens which makes them difficult to manipulate in programs that require an overall look at the screen.

Most people using computers need nothing but an internet connection. I think this might fit you, but may or may not fit your son. He might need at some point to work with stuff a Netbook might not be powerful enough to accomplish. If you have the budget for it you could get a relatively small sized laptop, since I do not consider big, bulky ones as laptops if they're gonna break my lap everytime I use it. If you have anymore questions ask me and I would be glad to answer you.

First clarify your motives of buying one. Then after clarifying, weigh the pros and cons. Lastly, choose the one that suits your need according to your budget. These are some of the criteria that you have to consider in making decisions. Once you have made these steps, it would be easier for you to opt for one that has the criteria you have set. For a working mom and you are always on the go,the latest model of netbook with 500GB HDD is a good choice. It is handy, light weight and will not cause you back pain when you carry it. Just see to it that it has a port where you can attach to LCD or projector. Laptop is also okay if you will just use it in the office or at home. But when you are travelling more often, carrying a laptop ,for me is a hassle because it is heavy. I used to have one with a very good configuration but because of its weight, I decided not to bring it whenever I go. I got a netbook and it's very useful. The choice is yours to make based on your personal need of it. Good luck.:-)

I prefer a 12" laptop for you and 10" for your son. Its perfect for both of you. You can bring that wherever you go and your son also he can bring his netbook to school. And buy a good quality that inexpensive. So you can save more money.

Netbooks are usually very under-powered compared to laptops. Some of them can't even display video without it being jerky and pixellated. It depends on what you are going to use it for. If you want your son to use regular applications like Microsoft Office, watch videos or do anything that might perform a lot of calculations (3d modelling, music composing or things like that) you will probably want the power of a laptop processor. Atom processors just don't hold up compared to laptop processors. This doesn't mean you can't do the basics. My wife's netbook runs a full version of XP and can handle any application we've installed on it at full speed, but I would never use it for my large graphics programs or music composition programs.

Netbook or notebook? While I love the idea of the netbook, I have found that they tend to be cheaply made and don't last very long. I would advise the notebook (laptop).....

If you can afford a laptop, then you should go for it. Like they said, it has more features that you and your son can use. The only downside is it is bigger and heavier. But as for me, I bought a netbook! Because I always my desktop for work/games and would only need to use my netbook if I am on vacations. I don't need to work during vacations! I just bring it to check e-mail and for browsing the internet. After all, that is just the purpose of a netbook. =)

It is all up to you. For me, I will rather choose a laptop because it loads fast than netbook. There are some applications that do not run on netbook.

If you need it for work then i highly suggest you to choose laptop/notebook. Laptop could proccessing more harder tasks than a netbook because usually laptop has more RAM memory than netbook. RAM memory is used everytime we doing every tasks in the computer, so it means more RAM memory we have then the better we can doing every tasks or multitasking with it. So, if you need it for your working need and maybe your son's school or games need, it is better for you choosing laptop. Well i hope my oppinion could help you choosing the right for you. Happy mylotting.. ^_^

I don't know much about netbooks and that's why I prefer a laptop for your son. It will fulfill all his needs and he'll never complain about it. He'll surely love it. Best of luck.
