Last night my girls Girl Scout troop went to a nursing home to sing christmas carols to the seniors. Well on the door there was a sign that posted they were having an outbreak of the flu there. Um hello why were we there? No one wants the flu. So we sang a few songs and then they wanted to decorate cookies?!?! Really?!?!? So in their commons/meal area the leaders were going to set things up but then were told we should leave. I'm thinking finally someone with a brain around here. So despite all the sanitizers and such I'm quite urked that they even though it was a good idea.

I'd be irked too. You know what probably did it.. some other little group came through to sing carols or something and one of those little rugrats had the flu and passed it on to all the old people. Hope you guys don't catch it! Especially not on the week of Christmas.. ugh!

I hope we don't either. I was like we need to get out of here when the troop leaders were told to leave and find a bathroom outside of the nursing home and wash very well with soap and water!!! Though they did have this multiple gallon bucket of purell wipes still leaves me a bit leary. We've been to that nursing home alot of times for trick or treat, easter, and singing before and had no problems. *crossing fingers*

They should have told the Girl Scouts not to come, if they knew they were coming. It would probably be a disappointment for the old folks, but I think they would understand.

I used to do that with the Girl Scouts. I led the singing thanks to my grandmother. Okay, hand sanitizers can be overused, and they can do more harm than good sometimes. They can actually make it easier for you to catch the flu and certain diseases if you use them too much. The shot really is the best prevention, but I know how some people feel about it. Personally, I have the flu shot every year because I have a low immune system as it is. I also make sure that I try to eat well and eat things that won't make me sick. I also try to stay away from people who have the flu, but if I do happen to get it from them, I just deal with it. Then again with everything that I have caught over the years, I should have a super immune system sooner or later.

That is annoying, they should have cancelled your visit if they knew there was a flu going around. I think some people are just so RUDE and SELFISH when it comes to being sick. If you are sick, you should voluntarily stay away from me and my family. Instead, people never want to cancel or stay home or anything, so they go on spreading the disease. If you don't know they are sick until you show up, what are you going to do then? Leave and say "well we don't want to get sick?" Well that was a little off-topic but similar situation. People I know who are always sick and always show up without telling us in advance they were sick. If someone is sick, they should give us the heads-up so we have the option of staying away if we choose.

That is one thing you don't need right now during the holidays! They should have called and cancelled! I don't think I would have even went in. I see people during the day that say.....I don't feel well....you wonder what the heck they are doing out and about instead of staying home and spreading it!

I know that there was pressure to give these people the gift of song, but I think I would have taken my child away. Sorry but avoiding the flu would have been my choice. Blessings

Yes I agree, when there is an outbreak of the flu everyone in that area should be isolated, getting the flu can be a serious thing so best to stay away..

It appeared that the people who were ill were isolated as there were few residents out and about. I think they sang to maybe 10 residents total

hi 3snugglebunnies wow that was rather naive on their part to tell that they had the flu and yet want to be entertained by carolers'and share all he bugs? when they told you to leave that was the smart thing to do in the first place. this strain of flu gets in your lungs, your throat, your eyes, its darned mean and nobody should want to take a chance. Here its just oppposite we have signs all over " if you have any symtoms of the flu please wait to visit our residents until you are well. Thank you for your cooperation. My best friend and I went shopping in target and just two days before christmas we came down with the flu with the sane symptoms and all.this strain seems really contagious too. I am surprised that they thought it a good idea for you to go in and carol when they had an out b reak of the flu? that is stu pid thinking and thats the way people get sick too.oh myG decorating cookies would really have spread the flu bugs around good thimg somone did use some common sense.
