SEriously, I put my son's supper in the microwave to heat it up and sparks flew everywhere. It was a plastic bowl that I have used a lot of times so it was just he device that went out!It made this very loud noise and then I smelled smoke! I though I could make it without it but the first day was very tough..I'm a wuss...Could you make it without yours?

Yay. No more microwave! That is awesome! Quite a few years back, we decided that we no longer wanted to have a microwave in our house so we gave it to our neighbour who had just had his die on him. He was astounded and wondered why on earth we would want to give up this "useful" piece of equipment. We exchanged our microwave lifestyle for one of blenders and food processors instead and have never looked back. We do not and never will need a microwave. They are really not even something that we would ever consider using. The little cooking that we do actually do is easily achieved in conventional ovens and stove tops. At least we now know 100% that harmful electrical frequencies are not in our food.

That is pretty much what I was thinking really. I thought it would be an easy transition as I thought I did not use it much. But I found out how much I was really depending on it! I'm sure I will adjust to it eventually.

That is weird. I've had sparks fly when there was no metal in there and I couldn't figure out why. However mine never went out like that, it just sparked maybe once making me wonder if some metal somehow got into my daughters meal. We would make it without the microwave but it would be ROUGH. Right now every day we defrost my daughters frozen home-made baby food 3x a day. If not for the microwave we'd have to do the old-fashioned things like putting it in a cup of hot water which would take a lot longer. A hungry baby has no patience so that would be hard :) We have been trying to get away from frozen meals and microwave dinners, so maybe if it went out it'd help me with that effort!

Yes my son gets frozen meals delivered to him each week. I used the microwave to heat them up for him. The oven takes a long time. Not a bad thing- just a major day adjustment! lol! I think I will be fine without it... we'll see. I just need to get used to it first!

I could make it without mine. I don't use it very often, but it is convenient when I want to. If you will look in my profile, you'll see a link to an article that might fix your microwave. And why aren't we friends?

Personally it would be quite hard to make it without a working microwave. Ours is not the Best anymore, and we have been talking actually about getting a new one soon ourselves. They do come in handy when you are just wanting to heat up some left overs, or a quick meal.

They are very handy indeed! I am finding out just how handy they can be now that I do not have one! lol!I need to get busy working mylot and make more money so I can buy a new one! lol! Mine had been making some interesting noises, so I was not too shocked (no pun intended!) when it went out the other day!

I thought that I did not use mine too much either. But then going about a normal day I found out that I actually use it a lot more than I originally thought! I was seriously shocked at the inconvenience of not having it readily available. I have a new one now!

I use the microwave near every day. What you said hasn't happened to me.I know we can't put metal containers into it,but yours was a plastic bowl.I wonder if you have known what went wrong with your microwave.

It had been making some funny noises anyway. I wasn't too surprised that it burnt up! I was just sad! But my aunt and uncle sent me some money so I could order a new one so I should get it soon!

You must have it scrapped, the sooner, the better. It is no joking matter.

My microwave went out a few months ago. One minute it was working and for the next item, there was nothing. I figure it just needs a fuse or something minimal but I have no way of knowing how to fix it. It was an old Tappan than an aunt gave me when I moved into this apartment. I had bought a small one already, but couldn't refuse her kindness so I decided to use it knowing it would die one day. So, I already had the new one back in a closet. The old Tappan is now setting here and I offered it on freecycle but had no takers. I don't know what to do with it. Can't put it out for trash or recycle. It's too big and I don't think the city will take it as recycle. Anyone got any ideas?

I would think that you could recycle it. Maybe your city has e-waste days where they make special trips around to pick up electrical items to keep them from all being dumped in the landfills.

I have had a microwave for over 40 years. What was funny is that when my oven went out I taught myself how to cook meat in the microwave. I remember my father in law stating he could never make a meal in the microwave. So we invited them over the next week and I made my roast beef in the microwave with veggie. I did not say a word when they were eating. When the meal was finished, my father in law said pretty good marie a couple of times. After all was said and done I let him know everything cooked was fron the microwave. I havent really used mine as of late. It goes in spurts for me.

haHa!!That's funny!! I used mine a lot more than I realized! I honestly thought I would not miss it at all and I could easily adjust to using only the stove and my little toaster oven. I was wrong! I didn't realize how many times I turn around to put things in the microwave in a day! lol!

We don't use the microwave everyday here. Normally my mom reheat foods in the stove, no matter how many times I told her to just use the microwave. She still finds it more convenient to open the stove and put the food in a pan. But I find it easier using the microwave, less things to wash and not using the gas too. So without the microwave my mom can still make it. But if it's me, I will find it hard too especially if we're use to it. Cos It actually saves so much of our time.

I am certainly finding out just how much time they save! lol! I miss it - I had no idea how much I was really using the microwave. But it's okay. I am trying to adjust but having to heat things up the "old-fashioned" way is cramping my style! lol! (what little style I had!)
