Big Band is still alive

Tonight my wife and I went to a big band concert. The Richmond (VA) Parks and Recreation Dept. foots the bill twice a year to bring in a big professional band, The Continentals. Seven hundred people came out. It was almost standing room only in that high school auditorium. It was a free event. It was replete with wonderfully talented (and famous) jazz musicians of saxes, clarinets, trombones, trumpets, piano, drums, bass, and four solo singers. All around me 80-year-olds were jiving and rocking. The woman to our right was 87. She laughed and swayed and applauded with enjoyment. Many songs were for the Christmas season. The place rocked. I was thrilled watching them and listening to quality big band swing music. Isn't it great for that kind of music to be still alive and kicking?

That is great! I love big band music but never have seen it live because it's not very popular - or maybe I just don't know where to go. It's really easy to dance to, but also easy to sit back and relax while listening to it. That is nice that your city does that every year - must be lots of fun!
