What made you choose to be or not to be a member of a political party?

There are so many reasons for party membership. There are also now many people who refused to espouse any political party. What made you decide to or not to belong to a political party? I, by the way, grew up in a home that was politically divided... My mother was Democrat and my father was Republican and Conservative. Sometimes they agreed on the issues and sometimes they cancelled each other's votes out. I never heard them fight about politics. I chose to be "Undeclared" or "Undecided" at first because I thought then I would get information from both parties. I quickly found that did not happen so I watched both party's conventions, listened to all of the speeches at them and decided based in part on that experience and later solidified my position based on my experience working with people who were disabled, poor, young, elderly, etc. I know that many people make different political choices based on their own thoughts, experiences and values... What caused you to decide to become a member of your political party or to refrain from being a part of one? I am hoping that people will be kind to each other in this discussion... There are far too many people who just label people without getting to know them. And I for one am tired of it. Let this be a place where people talk politely and express what caused them to embrace political party membership or to avoid it.

I choose to be a Libertarian why because it is the Political Party that I feel I agree with the most. Also I do not like the whole idea of being a non member of a party it just doesn't seem right as we are talking about our government to me not member of party or independent is just like deciding that your not going to take a side. I do find that both Republicans and Democrats dislike my views pretty much equally as well I come of to a Democrat as a Conservative and a Republican as a Liberal. Nothing made me choose a party I did it of my own free will.

I am glad that you chose a party on your own... It is interesting that you chose a party that you think is disliked by both parties... I must admit that having listened to Conservative talk show hosts more than a few times was enough to take away any thoughts that I had about being Conservative... People being too much against something makes me think of being for it in empathy. :)
